Hello everyone. I have recently been messing around with effect files, and now I have a question regarding its widespread use. My question is how often should they be used? Should every object have its own effect file, and if so, will it be any slower to do everything manually? I have an object class which everything is derived from: should the class have an effect file and let the derived classes handle the loading? Thanks...

I really like the idea of effects techniques but it doesnt seem intuitive to me so i tend to use straight shader code and a lot of if''s.

DO NOT use one for each object. Changing shaders is expensive and you should batch any objects which use certain techniques to minimize switching.

Also if you have an object (mesh) class do you really want to carry the overhead of a technique (memory wise) with each? What if you have 100 objects on screen?
