gluPerspective vs. glOrtho

Could someone explain what the difference is between these two opengl projections and when a good time to use would be?

Perspective makes things get smaller when they get far away and Ortho doesn''t thats the main diffrence persepective is for (REAL) Eye simulation and Ortho is more for opject editing and 2d stuff

yes. But If you want You after you render your world and everything else you can change to a Ortho and use it to render a Heads up display with a textures and stuff, that would be a good use for the ortho view.

The only time I seen ortho used (for game objects, not just hud etc) is in 2D games, and isometric games.

You can try out the flight sim in ortho view too, but it would look pretty funny .
