Hello all,
I'm working on a small arcade-style action game. I'm building the website for it currently, as well as developing the graphics, sound, and game engine.
It'll be an OpenGL-rendered sprite engine, nothing too complex but I have some neat ideas for game features, which I will present on the site.

Follow the "Game Development" part of the brain to "PlanetSide"...

PlanetSide
Um, I dont know if you know this or not, or if you have any connection with this company, but there is a large MMOFPS coming out soon with the name PlanetSide.
Just thought you should know.

Yup, I found out about Sony''s game 2 weeks into my game''s development... the concepts are not even remotely similar, and the name "PlanetSide" isn''t (from what I understand of such things) a trademark or intellectual copyright like "Super Mario" or "OddWorld", so I intend to keep it.
... Though I suppose I shall receive much flak for making this choice.
(A side note, I have no connection with Sony.)

its a pc game. thats similar enough to cause confusion. change the name of your game. planetside has been in development for a long time.
trademarks are for things in similar markets. for instance, planetside toothpaste would be ok, but not a planetside game.

Yeah, when I visited this thread, I expected some kind of discussion on the upcoming from Sony. If you really want Planetside, though, I''d definitely go with a subtitle (ala, the mentioned "Planetside Toothpase" )
heh, actually i meant that if he was making toothpaste called planetside, NOT a pc game. even a subtitle is not enough. i would suggest coming up with another name.
