Character Texturing Workflow

Character Texturing Workflow When building a character for a game or any kind of realtime environment, there are many things to keep in mind. A while back we mentioned some pitfalls to avoid during the modeling stage, today we’ll talk a bit about UV mapping and texture painting. UV mapping is a rather tedious process, but it’s a requirement because it prepares the “canvas” for you to....

Is true time travel possible (in games)?

Is true time travel possible (in games)? I like time travel. The Embassy of Time is a big display of that. It is designed to include books (currently being written), comics (being slowly drafted), movies/animation (storyboards are being revamped from an earlier, failed attempt), and of course, games, like what I have talked about in here . But as is fairly common knowledge by now, games are a ve....

Upgrade Update: Reputation Feedback

Reputation. This is a tricky subject. The site upgrade - by nature of the upgrade - is going to introduce changes to our reputation system. There is no stopping the change. The current reputation system is custom-made and is not portable to the upgrade. This doesn't mean we couldn't port it, but it's a question of ROI. Some may perceive this to be a negat....

meh... moodswings... meh

I've barely touched my engine in 2 weeks or so. I've had another thing enter my life. I don't even know why I'm posting. I don't know if I'll continue my 4e4 project, but at least my engine is at a good stopping place. It loads and renders models and stuff, so at least it works. I've been wondering, what is Toronto like? Is there lots of public....

The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning

I grabbed my GDNet subscription who knows how many months ago, so I figured it was about time I got off my arse and started my journal, and what better excuse could there be than starting my 4E4 entry? That's right folks, 2 months after the contest started I've *finally* been able to decide on an idea that I like for my entry. I've managed to....

Wow...

Well, an eventful couple of weeks, infact...I've gone and made a list for you: - Rivaled Fate V2 gets hacked due to a PHP security flaw - Its forums get trolled by the GNAA (Google it) - I get concussed and lose one tooth (I'll explain later on) - I lose my best friend due to him being a complete and utter ass So...yeah. Not great. As for the....

perl

Well I decided to learn perl by writing myself an image directory display script thingy. I haven't bothered to install a file manager yet so I've been using mozilla to look through the directories, but when files are called things like 10215420.jpg it can be difficult to find what you're looking for. Anyway, here it is in all its horrifying glory. I'm sure....

Where's the cream filling?

Incredible, simply incredible. Bartholemew R. Princeton thinks that this is the best never-updated journal ever. So say we all. So say we all!.

I AM AN ELEPHANT

Hey guys! Please evaluate my latest work of art! In other news, I have no other news..

4E4 fighting

=== Fighting Fighting happens like this: every character in the game has limbs they can use to strike (they can have weapons, or be used bare). == Weapon damage When a character strikes, the weapon damage is computed based on the weapon used and the character's skill with it (the weapon may perform some checks or randomization of values of its own,....

Someday I'll be a master

Yesterday I picked up a copy of Effective C++, 3rd Edition by Scott Meyers. So far it's pretty cool and loaded with stuff I had never thought of before. Reading it is kind of like having Washu tell you how to fix your design, only it doesn't make you feel bad I advise anyone who wants to learn to write better C++ to get this book..
