    Submissions Open for IndieDev: Showcase

    • Posted By khawk

Develop:Brighton’s annual search for the next big thing in independent games development is underway as submissions open for the seventh Indie Showcase, sponsored by Unity, at www.developconference.com.

The conference and expo’s free-to- enter competition celebrates the very best of indie game development. From all the games submitted, a judging panel will whittle the list down to a top ten which will then be showcased as part of the Develop:Brighton expo over the Wednesday and Thursday of the conference.

This year’s judging panel chaired by Adam Green (Assyria Game Studio) is:

    • Andy Brammall (Unity)
    • Bruce Slater (Radical Forge)
    • Phil Gaskell (Ripstone)
    • Korina Kay Abbot (KAGames)
    • Alistair Aitcheson (Alistair Aitcheson Games)
    • Andrew Smith (Spilt Milk Studios)
    • Romana Ramzan (Glasgow Caledonian University)

On top of the opportunity to show off their game to around 2,000 developers and publishers in Brighton, all 10 finalists will receive one two-day pass to Develop:Brighton (Wednesday & Thursday), up to five Expo passes, pre-event publicity and a profile on the event website.

Over the past six years more than 600 indie developers have submitted their games to the judging panel from award-winning puzzle adventure Hue to BAFTA winning That Dragon, Cancer.

“Year on year, the quality and volume of submissions to the Develop:Brighton Indie Showcase continue to increase,” commented Andy Lane, managing director of conference organisers, Tandem Events. “I’d like to put on record my thanks to the judging panel. In particular, I’d like to thank Adam who has chaired the panel since the very first one, but sadly 2017 will be his final showcase as chairman and our sponsors Unity who have supported the Indie Showcase since its inception .”

Adam Green, managing director of Assyria Games and chair of the judging panel added, "The Develop:Brighton Indie Showcase is a fantastic opportunity for developers to show off their creativity and skills in front of publishers, press and fellow peers."

"For each game submitted the judging panel will focus on originality, gameplay, graphics and technical achievement. Good luck to all those who submit."

David Rabineau, Co-founder & Producer of the 2016 Overall Indie Showcase winner, Anarcute, added, "We really enjoyed the event last year, we got to meet lots of really interesting devs from various backgrounds and countries, everybody was very friendly and winning the award with our first game in the middle of this great mix of game genres and platforms was an honour for us.”

Submissions for the Develop Indie Showcase are now open and it's completely free to apply. Applicants wishing to enter must comply with the following rules:

      • Studios with no more than 15 people
      • Studios – and games – that are non-publisher funded
      • Games which are not published by a third party at the time of submission
      • Games that have a development budget of less than £1million
      • Games that are created in the “indie spirit”
      • Full information and application forms can be found on the website www.developconference.com.

The deadline to enter is 19 May and the overall Indie Showcase and People's Choice winners will be announced to press and delegates at the Develop:Brighton on Thursday 13 July 2017.
