  1. Circle Hough Transform

Quote:Original post by nagromo Detect circles in what scene? In 3d geometry or in a screen image? Also, how do you know that the circle will be centered on (test_point_x, test_point_y) with the right radius? If you don't, your current method would need more for loops for that, which would take way, way too long. Tell us what circles you're trying to find and what you need to use them for, and maybe we can help think of a way around the problem. Let's say I have a 2D rounded rectangle image, and I want to detect the 2 semicircle ends. The radius is an estimate. I use the calculated x and y in an accumulator, like all hough transform uses, to find the most likely place a circle or part of circle would be.

  9. Why not use Ccharacter as the base class for Cknight, Cmage, etc.
  10. Thanks everyone, those articles are a great help.
  11. You'll have to draw the model twice, once with texture, and once in wireframe mode.
  12. I'm looking for books or articles on concepts for multi-threading in games, anyone have suggestions?
  13. Quote: Do I want to learn Open GL or DirectX? Why should I go for one over the other? Windows/Xbox use DirectX, others use OpenGL, because DX is microsoft, and OpenGL is cross platform. In general, the programming concept is more importent then the API, so learn the concepts. Quote: What are these different 3d engines, OcTree vs Portal engine, vs BSP? Why is one better than the other for 3d games? Two of those 3 are not engines. OctTree and BSP are data structures used in game engines to speed up process time by decreasing the time it take to search for a particular data. Quote: What is a good client/server setup or where can I learn how to program games whith multi-user options? For win32, you can use winsock and set up some simple TCP/UDP projects. Quote: Is trying to make my own engine better or should I go with Ogre, Irrlicht, or some other already developed open source engine? To start our, making your own engine would help you understand how everything works, it is a very good learning process. Quote: I had decided on C++ for my language, is Python or C# more marketable in the game industry? I would say C/C++ is still the major language used in the industry, and I don't think it'll change soon.
  14. My genius plan!

From your first post: Quote: Programming: Not sure, C++? (I got a bud that can teach me the language any who) That alone is an indication that you should not think about making an MMORPG, at least at this stage. It doesn't even matter where you get your sprites, you need to learn programming first if you want to make a game.
  15. OpenGL GLSL a mystery to me :-(
