1. Hi there,   I released the next chapter in the Quantify Me series: Metacritic. Having done an analysis of the CSDb first (CSDb: Quantify Me) in July 2010 and then Mobygames (Mobygames: Quantify Me) at the end of December 2012, the attention has turned to the games listed at Metacritic. This one turned out to big a big analysis, collecting data almost non-stop from the Metacritic website between the 25th of August 2013 and the 10th of September 2013. Then cleaning of the database and actual analyses took another lengthy period of time, as this needed to be done late in the evenings, as much as possible. Finally the first chapter of this endeavor is here. The conclusion of this 30 page paper (which you can get here as PDF) is that their data is really of no use to end users, as the bias in there is large.   I have attached it here for you convenience.   Cheers, Mike
2. Hi there, Over at our XeNTaX Game Research Forum we have a modding theme called "You play with us, we play with you", started last Sunday. Based on the upcoming elections on the 12th of September, the idea was to introduce leaders of 6 Dutch political parties into games of choice. This has resulted in the following mods in just a week: Fall Out: New Vegas, http://www.xentax.com/?p=713 Counterstrike: Source, http://www.xentax.com/?p=734 Counterstrike 1.6, http://www.xentax.com/?p=723 Grand Theft Auto IV, http://www.xentax.com/?p=741 Some YouTube footage of the Dutch politicians in FO:NV, CSS, CS1.6 and GTAIV. Now we can play as THEM and battle it out! The Game Research Forum is dedicated to game modding and file exploration. The mods are great examples.
