  1. simulating quantum behavior

yep microsoft went on a feynman vendetta recently. or i guess to be more precise a vendeta against feynman fans but it's cool that the lectures are accessible. i actually helped him write a few of his lectures.
  2. Rogue vs. Feral Druid

While this post was meant to troll, Brother Bob's reply was actually helpful. That glyph is freaking awesome.

I was only pointing out what I knew so they could help me out with the stuff I didn't. Sorry if that tears at your soul and devours your heart messily. Ambien will help you sleep.
  4. general formula for hyperplane

Quote:Original post by swiftcoder Quote:Original post by AlphaCoder I can visualize the higher dimensions easily. (in fact I'm one of the few people alive who can. only edward witten for sure can as well)Purely out of curiosity, if no one else can visualise these hyper-planes, then who is going to play your game? They should only need to worry about cross sections and a few.. details involved with the dimensions involved. There will be a lot of surprises for them if they aren't visualizing it in its entirety but I'm hoping to make that a core part of gameplay.
  5. All I think about during sex are video games

Quote:Original post by Eelco I dont think you can lay claim to geekhood-proper unless youve been designing videogames, doing math, or somesuch, while having sex. If not, youll find yourself open to the criticism that you are merely a geek by necessity. There were a couple times. Once I was trying to solve a system of diffeQ's for pharmaceutical drug intake frequency to balance the levels in the blood. Another time I was conjecturing about a spaceship passing the event horizon and getting stuck at the mucus plug er.. singularity.

Quote:Original post by borngamer Based on your post, there are many signs showing that you may be playing for the wrong team. A couple quotes from your message indicate this. Quote:Original post by AlphaCoder I'm not picturing female characters from games either. Quote:Original post by AlphaCoder Thinking about Duke Nukem forever always makes me last a really long time. You do like girls don't you? :) NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *calms down* Ok. You raise some valid points. I need to enter the tree of insight.. and confront my inner demons. On a side note, does it help that thinking of Tome Raider makes me finish quickly?
  7. Whenever I'm screwing my way to some inevitable conclusion, I find myself thinking about video games. It doesn't just bother me that they are all that occur to me, but that they.. well.. they seem to do the trick. I'm not picturing female characters from games either. i tend to just be thinking about elements of gameplay mechanics that I find particularly innovative or smooth. Or sometimes I'll think about some aspect of a game that really pissed me off due to its frustrating or poorly designed nature/implementation. This tends to lead to rough sex. Thinking about Duke Nukem forever always makes me last a really long time.
  8. Practice programming website?

project euler is a great way to get you into math-related algorithms programming. i'd solved every problem on the site as of the beginning of june/'09. they're probably added a few more headaches since though. i have aids, but i still enjoy programming. and no that's not a joke. just want people to understand the joy of coding. it's bigger than oneself and bigger than the sum of your works within it. if i get a cold, i die.
  9. simulating quantum behavior

i already knew all this. was hoping someone had found a grand unified theory and was just waiting for an opportunity to show it off in a thread. cuz that's basically what i need. i'm currently simulating a human brain in real time down to the electron on my iphone. it's an app you can d/l for 99 cents. but it uses a crappy statistical model for the electron positions. electrons are point particles. they have NO size whatsoever.
  10. simulating quantum behavior

Is there a good comprehensive resource for quantum mechanical rules? I'd like something that I could translate to code. I'd like to simulate a Hydrogen atom. I'm aware that even this would be extremely difficult. I'd like this to obey all quantum mechanical phenomena. For example, without hard coding this type of behavior, I'd like to shove a planck's mass or more into the space of a planck's length or less and see it collapse into a singularity. (with singularities being some abstract concept, since they'd probably 1/0 the whole simulation if i tried to do them completely procedurally.) it's just the process of the singularity being formed that i'd like to be procedural. and this is just a random example i picked out of the air to describe what i meant by simulating a hydrogen atom on the quantum level. other phenomena would have to be present as well. all procedural except for things like singularities/strings etc.
  11. Rogue vs. Feral Druid

Whenever I go up against a feral druid, I get destroyed. If I can catch them in caster or cat form it's fine but all they need is a split second to get into bear, then it's over. Their health and armor makes it impossible to do any damage and despite being in a "tank" form they still seem to do enough damage to burn me down. Any tips?
  12. I'm working on a game in which the amount of spatial dimensions will vary from level to level and in some cases within the level. What is the general formula for the hyper plane described by n-points? I can generate a line based on two points and a plane based on three points and a hyperplane based on four points and a hyper hyper plane based on five points and a hyper hyper hyper plane based on six points and a hyper hyper hyper hyper plane based on seven points and a hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper plane based on eight points and a hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper plane based on nine points. I could easily generate a hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper plane based on ten points. If I wanted to (and this case could certainly arise on the harder levels of my game) I could probably generate a hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper plane based on eleven points. On harder levels I could potentially generate a hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper plane based on twelve points. Also a hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper plane based on thirteen points would be feasible. It's when you get to hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper planes and beyond that I start having trouble. I wouldn't even know where to begin for generating a hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper plane or a hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper plane based on twenty points or forty points. Is there a general formula for generating a hyper * x - plane based on the necessary amount of points in a given dimension? I'm more than a little stumped as to how to go about generating a hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper hyper plane based on eighty seven points. I can visualize the higher dimensions easily. (in fact I'm one of the few people alive who can. only edward witten for sure can as well) My problem is my elementary school geometry teacher only took us up to twelve dimensions when we were working on higher dimensional geometry. Most of the kids cried when we reached thirteen. And that is because thirteen is a horribly unlucky number. As they say, thirteen is unlucky for some.
  13. SQL Query syntax

I know for a fact there are certain complex types of queries that can't be done in a single query statement. Some require loops. I'm wondering what type of queries require more than one query statement.
  14. SQL Query syntax

What general class of query types can't be executed with a single query? In other words, what class of query types require some scripting (a loop, some if/thens, etc.) Is there some kind of formalized system for analyzing query types and query needs and categorizing them that would make my question trivial?
  15. Porno MMO

Quote:Original post by GarmGarf Here people, this is the game design forum and the morality/legal issues are irrelevant here. Now, while many MMORPGs aim to possess an engaging gameplay experience, they usually strive for excellence in another area too: the area of character development. While a game world where the users can engage in gameplay of a sexual nature is all fine and good for those who enjoy it, alone that would be more of a toy, simulation or socialising application than a game. To make it a game, there must be goals, and the general goal in MMORPGs tends to be the goal of general character development. Basically my main game design advice, or idea, would be the implementation of this dimension of character development in some shape or form. An obvious example would be that players could gain experience for their character for every sexual encounter they execute. If the game allowed for partners to choose whether they were satisfied or not, or the game chose such a verdict through some calculations or whatever (or a mix), then the more satisfied the partner, the more experience could be gained for the character. An additional idea would be that experience could be used to purchases sexual abilities, such as sex positions, and that players could use their experience in some shape or form to develop their skills in the various sexual positions or moves (or these skills could be developed through attempting the moves/positions). The better the characters get, the more demanding individuals they could satisfy. I suppose some character stats (attributes) could be implemented into the game, like sex appeal ("hotness"), "cuteness", endurance, and etc, and characters could be given different tastes in partners. An additional idea would be to implement money into the game; so maybe players could choose to sell their bodies (prostitution) or work as strippers or run sex shops or whatever. Another thing worth watching out for is balancing the sexes. Basically it is advisable to make both choices equally as viable. There is also the issue of whether characters with some unclear sex should be allowed to be made (e.g: individuals with both the sexes' genitals), but it would probably be wise to just avoid implementing that because both a complicated game design system would have to be composed as well as additional modelling work. Also I suppose to make it simple, just allow characters to either be heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual (there isn't much point in implementing an "asexual" option for a sexual game). I know other sexual orientation types can exist in real life in between the shades of grey, but I think that is enough for a video game. I guess you could also implement means for characters to be able to change their sexual orientation in-game, either through counselling, being raped or some other means. Some very good ideas that have got me thinking along a whole bunch of new avenues. While the primary goal has been to create an interactive pornographic experience, we've had to admit that calling it an MMO is the most apt way of describing it. But in that same light, designing it like an MMO would have the added benefit of giving it a degree of depth that would solve the problem of (as the poster after you said) guys logging on for five minutes a couple times a week. I was thinking something along the lines of not having (or only to a minimal extent) an NPC-route to sexual gratification for your character. If you have to interface with another player, you have to at least try. And if there are some statistics/attributes that you can earn along the way that might make you a more desirable mate, then this would aid you in your goal of finding another player with which to engage in said activities. But there has to be a balance in mind between difficulty and gratification. Thank you for your input.
