  2. Thanks again , Karsten. I knew what the repositories did but I didn't understand why one seemed suddenly more popular than the other right now. Also, Websvn worked perfectly. Had it up and running in 2 minutes!
  3. Thanks alot, Karsten. I was wondering if there were any simpler alternatives and I wasn't aware of these. I think I'll give them a go.   But maybe you can answer another question? What's the difference between Git and SVN? I had wanted to try Github instead of SVN but I also couldn't configure that thing either, though I got much further than I did with Trac.
  4. Hey Gamedevers,   I'm having some trouble configuring Trac. Are there any resident mentors or experts who could assist with this?   Specifically, I don't know how to use Python or any other program for that matter, to administrate Trac. At this point I can only browse the repository with it. I didn't know it would be this complicated and the documentation literally assumes the person configuring it knows far more than I do.   Thanks in advance for any help. You can PM me or just keep the discussion in this thread. I really appreciate all your help :)
  5. As a straight up noob, I use Orwell Dev C++ I wanted to use something more substantial/long term like Netbeans or VS, but I couldn't get them set-up properly. Not newb friendly at all I had to download other pieces of software, install them, set them up in the IDE ...and I just barely understand what an IDE is so I just gave it up for now and went with Dev C++. It's plug and play. All the advice here so far is great, though. Thanks everyone
  6. I think I figured it out, though I still don't understand what exactly happened. There was a file which the IDE made by default called main.cpp. Based on the reading of the error which referenced that file, it was somehow being included in the compile process of the gameover.cpp. I don't know why. I deleted the main.cpp and the code ran perfectly. It would be nice to understand what that error means though. Thanks.
  7. I'm using an old book that teaches programming and I keep getting an error that I don't understand. The book is: [i]Beginning C++ Game Programming[/i] by Michael Dawson I've tried running the code in Dev-C++ and Netbeans IDE. No luck. I'm wondering if the lesson code within is dated (the book is old, 2004)?   8. I'm in the process of selecting a game engine for development of a game. Two engines have piqued my interest: Gamestudio and Unity 3. As far as ease of use, learning curve, versatility, and capability what do you coders who have used these engines think? I am just looking for feedback from people who have used these engines and wanting to know how they felt about them. I don't know a great deal about engines, but I do know what I want and need from one. How does Gamestudio pan out? Unity 3?
