  2. Thank you for your replies: it's much appreciated! Actually, I thought about pure random/procedural generation (I'm fond of these things) for creating the landscape (so generating a heightmap is an actual option, yes). The ultimate step would be to be able to generate an infinite terrain (and "fly" over it). And for using OpenGL with Java, I haven't decided yet between JOGL or lwjgl (I'm looking for something that works in Android) Thank you for your help!
  3. Hi, I'm an average Java coder, and now I want to learn OpenGL (in Java) to make a landscape like the one shown in the picture below (it's a Linux screensaver). Actually, the color stuff is not what I'm interested in: what I would like to achieve is just the wireframe view of such a landscape (pretty basic thing in OpenGL, I imagine...) So Big, Big, Big Thank You for providing me any piece of advice (or code) you have about what I should do in order to create a wireframe landscape!!!!!!! PS: if your tips, lines of code or weblinks deal with C/C++/C#, no problem, I'll figure out how to make it work in Java, so feel free to post any piece of help (because I'm really starting from scratch on this one, and I really want to code it!).   5. Hi, I'm an average coder in C/C++/Java, and I would like to improve my coding skills and learn new things. So do you know good books (or web links?) for C/C++/Java that teach really more than the basic scholar stuff, and instead venture into deeper and efficient coding techniques (code optimizations and tricks, and stuff like that) ? Hi guys, old-school gamers may remember Technosoft's ThunderForce III/Thunder Spirits (shoot'em up): actually, I would be interested in coding a shoot'em up which could include a sinusoidal deformation applied on a background texture (as seen in the fire level => please, see this picture: [url="http://www.stageselect.com/images/reviews/genesis/thunderforce3/firelevelsm.jpg"]sinusoidal deformation in the background[/url] ). Hi, I coded a free online game, and it's now available [img]http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img] It's a "Columns"-like game (if you don't know Columns, it's a puzzle game from Sega, back in the 90s). On the website, few links are not active yet, but the most useful ones are! ===================================== Actually, the game is a puzzle game, and here are the rules (the webpage with the rules isn't on the website yet... I'll quickly add this page [img]http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif[/img] ): - 1) you have to align 3 (or more) blocks with the same color or the same number. Aligned blox are removed from the game. Easy! - 2) each removed block gives you points (on your screen, see the "Points per Blox" info, near your score). At the beginning of the game, the "Points per Blox" data always starts at "100pts per removed block". In order to make these points go higher, you have to remove ALL! the blox above the horizontal white line (see the game area). Each time you clear what's above this line, 1)you gain 7 seconds of playtime, 2)you gain 5 new blocks to play with, and 3)you add 100 points to the "Points per Blox" data!!! (and, for the challenging part, the game adds 2 new lines of blox to be removed [img]http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img] ) The secret of making high scores in this game? Just quickly remove all the blox above the horizontal line!!! That's it! Easy!
