    Need advice on Graphic API's

When I was searching for tutorials I found more tutorials for OpenGL(just saying).. I agree with Kunos all you need to know is get the concepts the implementation in these 2 API's won't be much difficult to understand or switching from one API to another would be easy after that.. I think that(from People's review) DirectX has a "slightly" more steep learning curve for a beginner but then it all depends on you..

    Where to start

I think you should first decide where your passion lies..Is it the programming or the art development aspect.. If it is the programming aspect, then you first need to ask yourself am I really prepared to do some hard work and spend time..If you are prepared to go for programming then get ur C++ skills up to date..since u have already covered 90% of the stuff that shouldn't be hard to do...Then u need to choose an API..if u want to go for DirectX then I would suggest u go for Introduction to 3D Game Programming with DirectX 10 By Frank D. Luna..it is a very good beginner book talking about most of the general stuff u need to know in a very understandable manner.. As for openGL I would suggest the OpenGL Super Bible..
  3. As far as I know I don't think there is any 2d side scrolling game being taught in it...The author has talked of only C++ and made some very elementary console based games..the C++ content is also very basic level and good for a beginner with C++..I would suggest Thinking in C++ or Bjarne Stroustrup -- The C++ Programming Language, 3rd Ed if u want a deeper understanding of the internal although I must warn you these books are gonna take some time..

    Radiosity

Thanks Tubos .. Which method should I use.. the radiosity matrix one or the progressive refinement technique.. Also can you PLEASE refer to some source code implementing these 2 techniques.. Thanks.

    Radiosity

Hi I was studying an archived article about Radiosity..In that they talked about the radiosity matrix.. 1st question :- I have is that whether people use radiosity matrix method anymore or is it just progressive refinement technique that is used nowadays.. 2nd question :- When calculating the radiosity matrix and solving it..there would be an entry(element in each row) in which the row and column index are equal..i.e the same surface is the source and the destination..but how is this possible..I mean how can a surface recieve radiative energy from "itself"..Can you explain how this problem is dealt with.. 3rd question :- Can you guys give me some link of some demo(with source code) of the implementation of both the techniques(radiosity matrix & progressive refinement) available somewhere so that I can look at the source code and understand the implementation aspect.. Thank you guys..

    Win32 functions

Although this might not be right.. but there is a question(topic) by me in the beginner's section about a doubt in Radiosity..It's not being answered..I dunno why..

    Win32 functions

Thank you guys for such detailed replies..I will sure follow your advices and focus more on the concepts and refer to the other stuff as n when I need themm.. Thanks..

    Win32 functions

Hi today I was just looking at a source code for storing all resources as a custom format and then encrypting the data..I found a function called SHBrowseForFolder()..although I am new at win32 programming, I feel that there are a lot of win32 routines like SHBrowseForFolder() that we can use.. As a programmer starting to program games..what should I focus on..Should I focus on learning DirectX(since I have started learning it and don't want to start over afresh with OpenGL) more or first learn win32 programming completely and then try and do game coding using DirectX and C++.... There are so many functions...how will I ever to know about most of them which I might require later(since there are so many)... Also if I see them once I might forget them after some time...so What is the solution to this problem.. How can I know and remember most of the win32 functions..or atleast know where to look when in doubt and how to find the function I need for a specific purpose if I have never used a function for that purpose before..?? Please explain.. Thank you for reading through the entire length

    Using Image as a Resource

    Thanks guys for your replies..

    Using Image as a Resource

Thanks Serapth for your reply.. It may be to your advantage to package all your resources into a single file, XML probably makes as much sense as anything[/quote] . Can u tell me how to use xml for storing resources or can u guide me somewhere(online tutorial, code, article, link, book) that can tell me how to do it..and then how to use that resource eg: an image stored in xml file in my DirectX code.. Thanks again..

    Using Image as a Resource

Sorry..let me reframe my question..I want to know how to store an image as a resource or how to place an image file in my resource file(if there is any such resource file).. and I didn't understand where to use RT_RCDATA or RT_BITMAP type in my code. Also the second parameter to D3DXCreateTextureFromResourceEx() I could not understand(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb172805%28VS.85%29.aspx)..what is the module. I want to do this so that I can practice using the function D3DXCreateTextureFromResourceEx(). Please explain.. Thank you guys..

    Using Image as a Resource

Hi..I wanted to store some images as a resource. I read somewhere that by storing images as a resource u can compile it in the exe and hence avoid it being tampered with.. Can somebody tell me how to do it ? Can we also store a .dds file as a resource and then use D3DXCreateTextureFromtResourceEx() to create a texture from it..??
