  1. display offscreen buffer

i tried using directdraw and i get 170 fps. to 2) i know
  2. i want to show a software rendered buffer on screen. i tried glTexImage2d which is fast on newer machines but on a 433MHz pc with an Ati Rage Fury Pro it takes more than half of my frame rate (250 fps reduced to 100 with a 256x256 32bit buffer). Is there a faster way, especially for older computers?
