  1. Why don't you search through the forum first. Or even google... Yes, it is faster to learn C# and XNA. You can probably get to making simple games in less than 2 weeks?
  2. Nypyren made it clear. Anyone that knows a little bit about listviews will understand. Though I don't know... Would it work with an inventory too? Instead of adding the same item again changing a proprety of an item that is already there. That meaning instead of adding 2 arrows (on 2 rows), just using one row and increasing the quantity property by 1.
  3. Hello! I'm requiring assistance for the following problem: I am trying to make a simple shop using .net forms. You have 2 listboxes and you can transfer items from the first listbox, which is the shop to the second one which is the inventory. It works okay... but i want to make it a little bit more complicated. I want to have multiple columns. For name, price, quantity. I found out that a listview could do the job, but i can't handle it. Is there other way to make columned listboxes? Otherwise, can someone explain to me how I could use the listview to do the job instead?
  4. From what i know 3ds Max has a bigger community. Maya is used more by big companies and more often in movies... I only tried 3ds Max for a while. I can recommend it to you. The interface seems more friendly to beginners than maya's. That's just my opinion though. You can try both and decide after. There are is a lot of info on the internet. why did you choose a game development forum?
  5. As a beginner I found the Yellow Book of Rob Miles verry helpful. He explains everything very well and throws a joke here and there. And it's free. It's nice to have it in addition to what you already have ;). Good luck!
  6. As a beginner I recommend that you start with c# and continue with XNA. There's the MSDN to help you with programming in general and the community for both. You can get to making games in no time.

  8. Hello, I posted here today because i need some help with forms in c#. What i'm trying to do is a simple rpg with forms. Like buttons for: Arena, Inventory, shop etc. The biggest problem is i have no ideea how to send data from a form to another. Let's say I have MainForm and CreateForm. On the MainForm I have the button "Create new character". I click it, the new form appears. I have to put a name and select a class. When the user clicks submit i must send data to the MainForm or just another form, like the GameForm. I need someone to make a very clear example of what I must do. I'm not that advanced in programming.
  9. I am a beginner myself. I recommend you watching the series. Though I think reading a book can be almost the same, just a slower process (not necessarily a bad thing). I am currently going through the tutorial too. I want to start with c# instead of c++ (which i'm learning at school - a lot of people say it's awful for a beginner and I started to understand that somehow). And if you still want to read a book you can try the [url="http://www.robmiles.com/c-yellow-book/"]yellow book[/url] by Rob Miles or find yourself some free sources ;). P.S. The tutorial of thenewboston seemed a little weird in explaining things. Maybe is just me(I understood stuff because i already knew it - c++). Good luck!
  10. Hello! I wasted my entire easter holiday laying around doing nothing and I can't do this anymore. I need to work more. So i decided to make a "project" kind of thing where everyone could post exercises and we can help each other solve them. I actually need basic ones because i realised i don't know basic stuff like: finding if a number is prime. Really simple things like this can be sometimes hard to find on your own and can later help you because you can easly implement it. The first thing i want to know is where i could make 2 threads...(a mod should help me here). The first thread: Containing all the exercises in this form or with a few modifications. We should stick as much as we can to a standard tough. Problem no. 1 //Difficulty: Beginner Write a code that reads 10 numbers, checks if the numbers are prime and shows a total of prime numbers read. //Example: Input|2,5,6,3,12,6,7,25,2,8 Output|5 The second thread: Like a forum that helps people solve the exercise. Problem no. 1 I don't know how to check if a number is prime. Can someone help me? //You may even add sample code here Waiting for a mod to tell me where i should make the threads, or if they already exist and I didn't see them. Also if people know any other sources of practice/exercise, I would like to hear from them.

  13. Hello! How can I detect if an user pressed a button instead of getting him to type it/enter it. Example: printf("Choose an option"); printf("1.Eat"); printf("2.Sleep"); //get button press if (buttonpress ==1) Eat(); if (buttonpress ==2) Sleep(); Instead of: scanf("%d",&choise); if(choise==1)Eat(); You can modify the code as you wish. I just need to understand the part of the code where you get the button. IF POSSIBLE.
