  1. I've been trying to work out how to convert strings to integers, ex "Hello world" should become "7.5.12.12.15 23.15.17.12.4". How would I do this? I dont want source code, I just want a basic explanation so I can figure out exactly how to use it. Thanks guys
  2. Hello all again. I've been struggling with DirectX for ages now, even though my coding is right, VC++ doesnt want to compile anything for what ever reason. I've managed to get it down to one error now. 1>MSVCRTD.lib(crtexe.obj) : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _main referenced in function ___tmainCRTStartup Heres my code if it helps, just a basic window // include the basic windows header files and the Direct3D header file #include <windows.h> #include <windowsx.h> #include <d3d9.h> // include the Direct3D Library file #pragma comment (lib, "d3d9.lib") // global declarations LPDIRECT3D9 d3d; // the pointer to our Direct3D interface LPDIRECT3DDEVICE9 d3ddev; // the pointer to the device class // function prototypes void initD3D(HWND hWnd); // sets up and initializes Direct3D void render_frame(void); // renders a single frame void cleanD3D(void); // closes Direct3D and releases memory // the WindowProc function prototype LRESULT CALLBACK WindowProc(HWND hWnd, UINT message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam); // the entry point for any Windows program int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { HWND hWnd; WNDCLASSEX wc; ZeroMemory(&wc, sizeof(WNDCLASSEX)); wc.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); wc.style = CS_HREDRAW | CS_VREDRAW; wc.lpfnWndProc = WindowProc; wc.hInstance = hInstance; wc.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); wc.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)COLOR_WINDOW; wc.lpszClassName = L"WindowClass"; RegisterClassEx(&wc); hWnd = CreateWindowEx(NULL, L"WindowClass", L"Our First Direct3D Program", WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW, 300, 300, 800, 600, NULL, NULL, hInstance, NULL); ShowWindow(hWnd, nCmdShow); // set up and initialize Direct3D initD3D(hWnd); // enter the main loop: MSG msg; while(TRUE) { while(PeekMessage(&msg, NULL, 0, 0, PM_REMOVE)) { TranslateMessage(&msg); DispatchMessage(&msg); } if(msg.message == WM_QUIT) break; render_frame(); } // clean up DirectX and COM cleanD3D(); return msg.wParam; } // this is the main message handler for the program LRESULT CALLBACK WindowProc(HWND hWnd, UINT message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { switch(message) { case WM_DESTROY: { PostQuitMessage(0); return 0; } break; } return DefWindowProc (hWnd, message, wParam, lParam); } // this function initializes and prepares Direct3D for use void initD3D(HWND hWnd) { d3d = Direct3DCreate9(D3D_SDK_VERSION); // create the Direct3D interface D3DPRESENT_PARAMETERS d3dpp; // create a struct to hold various device information ZeroMemory(&d3dpp, sizeof(d3dpp)); // clear out the struct for use d3dpp.Windowed = TRUE; // program windowed, not fullscreen d3dpp.SwapEffect = D3DSWAPEFFECT_DISCARD; // discard old frames d3dpp.hDeviceWindow = hWnd; // set the window to be used by Direct3D // create a device class using this information and the info from the d3dpp stuct d3d->CreateDevice(D3DADAPTER_DEFAULT, D3DDEVTYPE_HAL, hWnd, D3DCREATE_SOFTWARE_VERTEXPROCESSING, &d3dpp, &d3ddev); } // this is the function used to render a single frame void render_frame(void) { // clear the window to a deep blue d3ddev->Clear(0, NULL, D3DCLEAR_TARGET, D3DCOLOR_XRGB(0, 40, 100), 1.0f, 0); d3ddev->BeginScene(); // begins the 3D scene // do 3D rendering on the back buffer here d3ddev->EndScene(); // ends the 3D scene d3ddev->Present(NULL, NULL, NULL, NULL); // displays the created frame on the screen } // this is the function that cleans up Direct3D and COM void cleanD3D(void) { d3ddev->Release(); // close and release the 3D device d3d->Release(); // close and release Direct3D } Thanks all, any help is much appreciated
  3. SDL issues

    When I try to compile an sdl program I get this error "1>LINK : fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file 'SDL.lib'". I've got it configured right, I've tried including it in the rescource files, using #pragma comment(lib, "SDL"), but I still get the error. #include "SDL.h" int main( int argc, char* args[] ) { //The images SDL_Surface* preview2 = NULL; SDL_Surface* screen = NULL; //Start SDL SDL_Init( SDL_INIT_EVERYTHING ); //Set up screen screen = SDL_SetVideoMode( 640, 480, 32, SDL_SWSURFACE ); //Load image preview2 = SDL_LoadBMP( "preview2" ); //Apply image to screen SDL_BlitSurface( preview2, NULL, screen, NULL ); //Update Screen SDL_Flip( screen ); //Pause SDL_Delay( 2000 ); //Free the loaded image SDL_FreeSurface( preview2 ); //Quit SDL SDL_Quit(); return 0; } Theres my code if it helps
  4. Hi guys, I've been trying to learn DirectX for a while now. I've tried to use the tutorials in the June 2010 sdk but the basic ones wouldnt compile in 2008 VC++ for some reason, so i look for some more tutorials and found this website http://www.directxtutorial.com/ . I really liked it, but I'm still having issues when i try to run a program. Here is the code #include <windows.h> #include <windowsx.h> // the WindowProc function prototype LRESULT CALLBACK WindowProc(HWND hWnd, UINT message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam); // the entry point for any Windows program int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE hInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { // the handle for the window, filled by a function HWND hWnd; // this struct holds information for the window class WNDCLASSEX wc; // clear out the window class for use ZeroMemory(&wc, sizeof(WNDCLASSEX)); // fill in the struct with the needed information wc.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); wc.style = CS_HREDRAW | CS_VREDRAW; wc.lpfnWndProc = WindowProc; wc.hInstance = hInstance; wc.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); wc.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)COLOR_WINDOW; wc.lpszClassName = L"WindowClass1"; // register the window class RegisterClassEx(&wc); // create the window and use the result as the handle hWnd = CreateWindowEx(NULL, L"WindowClass1", // name of the window class L"Our First Windowed Program", // title of the window WS_OVERLAPPEDWINDOW, // window style 300, // x-position of the window 300, // y-position of the window 500, // width of the window 400, // height of the window NULL, // we have no parent window, NULL NULL, // we aren't using menus, NULL hInstance, // application handle NULL); // used with multiple windows, NULL // display the window on the screen ShowWindow(hWnd, nCmdShow); // enter the main loop: // this struct holds Windows event messages MSG msg; // wait for the next message in the queue, store the result in 'msg' while(GetMessage(&msg, NULL, 0, 0)) { // translate keystroke messages into the right format TranslateMessage(&msg); // send the message to the WindowProc function DispatchMessage(&msg); } // return this part of the WM_QUIT message to Windows return msg.wParam; } // this is the main message handler for the program LRESULT CALLBACK WindowProc(HWND hWnd, UINT message, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { // sort through and find what code to run for the message given switch(message) { // this message is read when the window is closed case WM_DESTROY: { // close the application entirely PostQuitMessage(0); return 0; } break; } // Handle any messages the switch statement didn't return DefWindowProc (hWnd, message, wParam, lParam); } and here are the errors i get MSVCRTD.lib(crtexe.obj) : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _main referenced in function ___tmainCRTStartup 1>C:\Programming\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\DirectXWindow\Debug\DirectXWindow.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals Please help, I really want to get into game programming but i'm starting to get a bit frustrated because I've been trying for weeks to get something working
  5. Hi guys. I want to start doing some game programming as I've been doing c++ for quite a while now and I have a lot of spare time. So my question is, what do I need to do to start using OpenGL? I've tried a few times but it never seems to be able to do anything. I'm using dev c++ 4.9.2 as my compliler. Thanks in advance
