It's unclear where the money is coming from? Your "End product, income" doesn't cover initial funding. Also, if people have to pay to use it, I'm not sure how it would be Open Source.
I suggested that its free to use but if game make sales the engine organisation gets a commission, this will make it possible to fund the developement. So a kind of open source where dedicated people can get access and do developement. With regards to funding there must be collected from angel investores and other.

thanks for your reply. I am just a visionary and would work as project manager, fund raiser and recruit members. Of course need to find likeminded and experienced that wants to "own" the project with me.
  5. building a marketplace

okey do you think it could be profitable if such a thing could be developed?
  6. building a marketplace

I have an idea, to make something functional in the gaming world. What about creating a virtual marketplace for different games and "worlds". Have pasted some of it from a other thread I have. The idea could contain many aspects but "designed" in a traditionally way like finn.no, qxl.com or other. The thing is to give game developers a second option of earning money on funds and people to trade with their virtual goods and things needed. Lets say if we make a tradeportal where people can sell and buy stuff they need. Fuel, food, minerals, and other daily things. Other game developers could hook their online games on to the tradeportal wheter it,s farming, virtual gambling, adventure games, settler and other. The thing is that people could buy and sell thing they produce like in the real world. Also if people wanna cheat they can buy credits and buy the goods, upgrades etc eventually a subscribe gives the user a given set of credits. Anyway there must be developed a standard that every game needs to apply to. of course, users also can earn credits in their games to use in the trade portal. also the tradeportal could be a real internet webpage. People could buy credits with i.e through the marketplace. What do you think about this, has it been done? It will be a alternative way of earning money for game developers to fund more developement and paying the bills? What needs to be done so multiple games can use the same trade portal? Good or bad idea?

Something in common that everyone can benefit from, also they can benefit from each others membermass. In final all is about funding and getting funds to their game for further developement and paying the bills. So what do you think about this idea? Okey, come with your ideas etc.

What I want with the project is making it easy for people to create games so they can make a living. Anyway. lets say I got 1 million usd. What could possible be done?
  10. Building a game engine
I don't know how good an engine can be, if it's developed by randomly changing random people. "Nothing is impossible." Grow me a second head, please.
Even if you have a hardcore team with people that have control over project, debugs and other?
  11. Building a game engine
Trying to build a game engine without having built a game first is not going to work. Trying to build a game engine without a game where people submit effectively random pieces of code via contests is a disaster waiting to happen.
Is it a disaster if someone design a entire module with described features that we want? Lets say we have 10 modules, that cover different areas? We know what kind of game we want, what to do. Myself have an idea of a online game with multiple worlds. It reaches from growing crops to starship battles and contact with other civilisations. The key to bind all different games togheter are trade. Starships troopers etc also do need to eat? so by constructing a marketplace and build different games around that one. There would be many game engines developed regarding what user wanna do. I wanna be a starship captain, not a farmer. Then you are involved in that part of the game. So by constructing engines to the different worlds the game can envolve towards what users wants. Point is, if you know what you want you can make it. Commercial succes is harder, since it is hard to know what people want. That lead us to a other thing, how to recognice projects that can be commercial succes? With this I mean over time, just not right there and then.
  12. Building a game engine

Hi thanks for interesting views. I understand the complexity of a game engine and maybe not compete with the big guys. On the other hand if we get fundings and experienced people working partly on it, it should be possible? If this should happen, what sort of game engine would you make? what kind of game (that is popular, and sell or used a lot and will work in many years to come). What about a game engine that makes games in 3d format you can see on cinemas? Are there possible to design it in a way so user can select/deselect rules and/or add own. For example physics like gravity and other the developer can change. That the engine have prebuilt 3d modules and other around? What kind of modules can be premade (2d, 3d, game rules, other) What about a online game engine? Must be some area/niches that is possible to make something. What kind of online games are popular? What about teaming up with a game developer that has a game type we wanna develope a engine for? Eventually other. As I understand we first must decide what we wanna design, then how it can be profitable for all involved parts. On the side, Personally it had been good to make a game engine that could make games that offered good morality and just not warhunger but that alsowould appeal the broad band of users. Also good to use the moto: Nothing is impossible
  13. Building a game engine

I wanna build a game engine that is a hybrid between "open source" and funded developement. The aim are to build a engine where small companies and themes get the tools to develope "blockbuster" games that can compete with the companies that have millions in budget. End product, income: Private or small webdevelopement companies can pay royalties for each sold game/paying user they get. No sale, no pay. Same applies to bigger companies but they also need to pay a licence for using it. Money is going back to develope the product further, to ensure that webdevelopers has a first class product for their ideas. How Contest: Programmers can program different needed modules, winner of each module type wins the money. Open source (a kind of): Selected "producers", programmers and other are recruited. The pay will eventually be credits and a good thing to have on CV and eventually future income. Everyone is welcome to contribute with a pieace of art coding. Payed: Using funds to pay state of art programmers. Team: Different kind of people with different skills to make sure that the project go forward. And check that source code is unique and more. The engine: The engine design document are not created. Good user interface. Number one will be starting funding. I want comments and ideas from you! Are there a market for such a product? What could be the cost? people interested in working on such a project? Ideas for different game engines? (something other than what I suggested) What to aim for (internet, console, smartphone: android and more) How to fund such a project? (private investors, crowdfunding, other). Eventually other regarding business and echonomical. Other?.
  14. Developing a open source game

I am not looking for hiring people in this thread. I want views on making a multigame. It will say games nested togheter threw ordinary play and trade. i.e a farmer (like farmville) can sell crops to a trader in town. buyer sells to people that have other games but need supplies. To take it long all the way to other starships and/or civilisations/planets. This way real games could be developed, the games are free to play but can buy supplies , weapons, updates and other. Developers can program and make new stuff to sell. Maybe someone wants to start a community/civilisation similar to settlers. Starts to buy a planet and then go online and get people to be citizens and to terraform and make the world go in a direction they want. Other just wants to play ordinary wars i.e spacewars and sign up for this type of game. In such a world there could be a game for everyone. If you just wanna be a part of our own world or a foreign one. Different games has different game engines, but are linked togheter by a trading portal. Is there possible to make something like this online. What about the cost to make something like this? Possible to crowdfund? Open source, people can develope different games? from the simplest game to a real gamer game? Eventually developers get comission of each thing that is sold between players that they have developed? I have just sketched out some of the world and "rules". I do not have any story, since it is so complex.
  15. I have sketched out a game that can have many different "worlds". The key are that the different types of games are linked togheter with trade and other. Example a galaxycan consist of many different worlds. agriculture planet, desertplanet, waterplanet, sience planet and much more. The different planets have a different set up i.e agriculture planet trade with the different other buyers in their planet and eventually other. This way many different people like real gamers, mothers that are used to use facebook games, ordinary players etc can acces the game. The key is that its free but they can buy accesories from credits earned in game or they have bought. I have a small sketch of the game, but each structure of macro games are not developed. Either are a story, can be more than one story regarding where in the game you are. I wanna have game developers, story developers, graphic people and so on to team up and make this game. Please give me pointers if you are interested or other. Kindly regards
