    Any hope for Indie developers?

Hmmmm. Gimmy 1M I'll easally transform it in a 10M a years game no crowdfunding required. Do know what these other are doing with their money. The only reason AAA game cost 100M is for the same reason the goverment pays 159k for 5k stair case . Too much fat and secret handouts.

    Any hope for Indie developers?

I have a full time 40 hrs a week job and I developed game for fun. My first game took me 1.5 year of part time work had a lot of fun making it and learned a lot too. It is now lost in the universe of the internet, but 4 people manage to find it and I made $16 dollars in three years LOL (no effort on advertising obviously ). Working on my second game now sold my old hot rod that was in the garage and hire a graphic artist for a few months (note :My first game graphics are mine lol I am a coder but eeeeech!!!). This time around I will try the crowdfunding route; again like most of you said my chance are NULL at best but I will still finish the game regardless of funding or not. Presently have completed myself the server game engine( @grumpyOldDude saving $2M) and still working on client side stuff got two 60 seconds 3D blender generated Video trailers plus one Video teaser which again I made my self but with my graphic artist drawings/illustrations(@grumpyOldDude Saving $250K). I am 8 months plus or minus 8 of part time work away for my million dollars spit in the ocean. My only rant when you freeging budget is over $1M-$5M you are not a indie you are a subsidiary of a AAA+. don't crowdfund !!! ask your freeging mother CORP for more instead Grrrrr!!!!!!

Multy player Game limit per area

Thx guys. I had this idea for an PVP MMO where individual players could roam a vaste world and go anywhere they want and  where they could ask other players to become allies in order to acheive a gold. but I realize i'll have the create some kind of venture group(Max. 15 players) tracking intead of have them simply follow each other around after agreeing to help. This venture group would only last the current game session. I don't want clan like association just sporadict grouping because the end prize can only be won buy a single player, so its every man for himself ....... So for a given area everytime max players  is reached i'll create a new instance of area keeping in mind venture groups.
  6. Hi,   I was wondering on a PVP Quest based RPG MMO what happens when and excessive number of players get to a specific area( i.e. the throne room in a dungeon) ?   I figure at a certain point they create a new instance which bring to the question if you want to fight a rival group for the prize you could have a problem where half you group is on another instance  no ?

  9. We just upgraded our www.Giroka.com website to announce our new game.    The new game will leverage our 2D engine developed for our first game Xtractor Defender.   We will also start a new developing blog for the new side scroller called Dr. Sam Archer vs Aliens.
  10. Working on 2 small Scroller games
  11. Hi,   I just released my first game yesterday (www.xtractordefender.com).  It is a simple game but fun to play. This game won’t make me rich so I did not put a deposit on a Ferrari yet.   I had a lot of fun making it and the stuff I’ve learned during the course of the design and development is inestimable. There are a lot of things I will do differently on my future games. Furthermore I have designed and developed my own client management database, PayPal API listener and web Game Activation service.  This infrastructure is reusable for all my future games releases.   I now plan to leverage my XNA game 2D engine and build two quick scroller games for windows phone and PC. Note: Anyone who can supply quality Art and story line for 2D game and is interested in collaborating, I can probably build a working prototype in less than 1 month.   The game 2D engine is fully customizable with encrypted XML (found out about LUA too late so made my own doh!). I’ve also developed a very cryptic pseudo code for engine command. (I’m only one using it so very cryptic :0).   Things I will do differently: Spend more time on Art cannot afford good artist so I yes I , a programmer,  will try again. As soon as I make any profit on any game it will go toward a good 2D-3D Graphic Artist. Scoring, leveling , purchasing or money system. (Biggest complaint from beta testers on my first game.). I’ll use OPENGL bigger audience for my game. (Said DirectX in older post change my mind). C++,LUA. Use Navmesh. Did I say spend more time on Art.   Voila !

  18. It’s more a rant then a question. I’m currently on the final leg of publishing my first game product on the web. I learn a lot in the last years about the Video game industry: design & creation, programming technics and publishing (still some learning to do there).   Now I’m looking at different technology for my next game D&D RPG genre. So  I’ve decided to use C++ with a graphic API  but which one OPENGL or DIRECTX 11 NOOooo…. it’s not another one of which ones better, there are thousands of inconclusive rant on that on the web already ,  but more about the game market (see pie chart) .   A little bit of background I’m an avid  PC gamer I always love the Keyboard and mouse over the Console gamepads for gaming mostly RTS (i.e. StarCraft, Mech Commander, Age of empire, Dawn of war) and RPG (i.e.Ultima1-8, Baldur’s gate, Titan Quest, Dragon age, diablo2-3…). Having tried Dragon age and Diablo 3 on console after playing them on PC I thought in my opinion the game were diminish by it, I don’t understand why they don’t support the Keyboard and mouse on the console yet? Maybe they‘re afraid it’s going to kill the laptop/PC I don’t know?    Ok getting to the point from what information I gather on the internet (I know the internet… Meh!). It seems like the GPUs are favoring DirectX over OpenGL. SO go whit DirectX RIGHT!  Based on market shares Microsoft OS has the biggest audience potential.  But the new PCs/Laptops are going to be delivered with Window 8 which wants to segregate all games through their store.  OK THEN BE A REBEL and stick with OPENGL and go to Steam which in turn will segregate your game in their green light store.   Small indie developers like me sees Mega Corporations closing the game market more and more and pushing the console down our throat. Small caveat Microsoft buying Atari for a couple of billion and calling it an Indie game studio Grrrrr….  Indie qualifier should be with budget under 5M or something.     So I decided to go to the “Dark Side” the one whit the biggest market share.(DIRECTX 11 API)   Last Small caveat if console are taking over why every time I go to a game conference the PC side is always 4 times busier?   P.S. Might be totally off only 2 years in the business self-taught with books and internet J
  19. Thank  you for your comments,  very appreciated.   Good to know my XNA engine is still alive, it is a 2D sprite oriented  engine , so it is perfect for simple games like scrollers and connect the dot  ect.. on PC, tablet and phone apps, my next one will be 3D capable.   Call me a Neanderthal but I ‘m the type of guy that likes designing from scratch. I like things done a certain way (my way J)  which meets  certain criteria of functionality that I deem adequate,  and  some foreseen potential functionality which specializes the engine for optimum performance for the products intended without extraneous support for everything under the sun.
  20. I used XNA frameWork for my first game and buitl a game engine that is totally re-usable to do all sorts of game so fexible and light  it can  run on all windows platforms including phone and tablet. Flexable anough that anyone that supplies Art and a Idea I cant make a game in a few months. But I feel like I've wasted my time developping that engine because MS Windows stop supporting XNA on their next OS. I know their are still alot of XP, Vista and Win 7 out there but I want my next engine to last at least a couple years.

    Xna Hidef too power Hungry

Thanks for the tips   Yah ! I group evereything that is the way I get a FPS of 64 by never loading any image twice and clearing unused content in my level defined content manager class and also  proper throttling of methodes and events.   For how I get 4K sprite I read somewhere  it was better to load one big sprite sheet instead of multiple small one so my Xtractor platform unit is a 256X256 sprite and I got it rendered in 32 ISO directions perspectives making 2 sprite sheets of 4K X 4K maybe that is wrong ?.   All my sprite are not scaled they are draw 1:1 scale.   Anyhow ! Just finish splitting my stuff in 1k X 1k maximum like you suggested and they are now all in the power of 2  I knew my homemade  tool sprite packer /image transform would come in handy   Now it's back to testing  and  see if this reach profile is decent.   Thx
  22. Hi we have a game soon to be release (www.xtractordefender.com) the game install correctly on our 4 years old computer with  good (middle range) video card . We tested on computers and laptop with onboard video adpter and most of the failed. Our game is an ISO 2D and we used 4096X4096 graphic capabilty of the Hidef profile. We are thinking now to cut our graphic in half and go with the reach profile . Any thoughts would be appreciated.   THX

Thanks djtesh,   I'll bach split to 1kX1k  all my sprites and make updates to my Draw class to accomodate 4 part sprite draw and use the reach profile and see where it goes   Maybe will go with distributing the low and High res version.   Thx.

None taken it is a 2d iso ,   It run @ 65 FPS with 200 more sprites per screen the code is optimize.   The error i get on the onboard Video adapter is The current display adapter does not meet requirements.   That is why i'm intertaining use the  reach profile to minimized the requirement or should I stay with HiDef because it will also run on Xbox 360.   ThX
