1. Hi guys, Long time member here, and I recently launched my first iPad game, "Game Of Nerds for iPad". It's picking up steam in Asia in particular (currently the #1 free iPad app in the Philippines, woohoo), but I wanted to share with the rest of the world as well, so here goes. The game can be downloaded from the App Store page. As described in the App Store: "Game Of Nerds is an intense, gameshow-like quiz celebration of nerd culture that pits the nerds of the world against each other. Compete in categories that other quiz games won't even acknowledge - from internet memes and science to computer games and cult movies. - OVER 16,000 QUESTIONS and a total of 15 diverse, nerdy categories that will keep you occupied for weeks and weeks. - SINGLE PLAYER MODE puts you in fierce competition against friends and the nerds of the world. - MULTIPLAYER MODE allows for intense duels between 2-6 nerds on the same iPad. - Create CUSTOM TEAM MEMBERS that stand ready to assist you. - Watch your WORLD RANK and your NERD LEVEL increase as you get better. - This isn't some amateur quiz game; it's an intense, streamlined, gameshow-like experience, and every single question was made by a nerd like yourself. The categories are: Science fiction movies. The internet. Chemistry. Action and cult movies. Hardware and gadgets. Physics. Computer software. Fantasy movies. Astronomy. Computer games. Board / card / role-playing games. Biology. Math. Science fiction literature. Fantasy literature." Get it from the App Store page. Questions welcome.
2. Hey guys, Over thelast 14 months, I’ve worked on a game called GAME OF NERDS(www.gameofnerds.com). It is basically a quiz game – but not one of those simple‘answer 10 questions and get your score’ internet games. GAME OF NERDS isdesigned as an intense, immersive real-time quiz experience where you competeagainst your friends and the world. The 15 categories are completely outside the normal mainstream quiz categories like music and sports; here, you compete in knowledge of games, sci-fi, fantasy, internet memes and much more. Screenshotssay a lot more than words, so here are a couple for your viewing pleasure: Each round you get to pick from 3 of the game’s 15 categories. Pick the right answer as quickly as possible and defeat your friends. While playing, your team of friends will help you out if you’re stuck. Answering correctly adds points and builds streaks that award extra time. The main menu. Before playing, build a custom team of friends that complements your own weaknesses. GAME OFNERDS is a celebration of geekdom and a way to finally use all that specialknowledge that you’ve built up throughout your life as a nerd, but whichmainstream quiz games don’t care about. You can also create your own questionswhich other players will be confronted with and earn prizes doing so. Also, asyou play GAME OF NERDS, the game will profile you and tell you what kind ofnerd you are. I’m prettyhappy about how the project has turned out, and now I just need a bunch ofpeople to come over and play the game that I’ve spent the last year developing.Hope some of you guys will find it interesting: http://www.gameofnerds.com
3. No new release yet, no. We ended up putting this version on the game's webpage. What I'm currently doing is putting together all the feedback I get in a document, and once I've completed all tracks for the soundtrack, I'll use that doc as the starting point for modifying each track into final form. All the released tracks can be found at the 0 A.D. audio page: Here.
4. Hi guys, As part of a christmas promotion effort for 0 A.D., a game-in-development by Wildfire Games, I need to publish a new piece for the soundtrack on the game website within the next 24 hours or so. I've just finished a preliminary version for a battle track for the Roman Civilization, and I'm looking for some quick feedback, positive or negative, before we release the track. Please take a listen here: Roman Battle 1 (remake).mp3. Feel free to comment on anything. Is the sound quality okay? Are the melody lines clear and understandable? EDIT: Also, I really suck at mixing. Absolutely clueless. Does the track seem a bit low-volume to you compared to other music tracks, or is it just me? I tried using Hard Limiting on it, but I don't know how much I can do that before the sound distorts and stuff. Any ideas? [Edited by - Vaevictis_A on December 30, 2007 11:35:34 AM]
5. Isn't it a good idea to get a few books written before writing a book about how to write them?
6. Good - now translate that into a design doc!
7. Yeah, can't live without that sweet, sweet rap!
8. Only that I can't figure out whether I want Estok to win hugely or lose badly =D
9. Finished two tracks for 0 A.D. tonight. Both play when the player engages troops in battle. One is for the game's Carthaginian civilisation, the other for the Persians. Carthaginian Battle 2 Persian Battle 1 Comments?
10. Interested as well. I have the option of working together with a talented female vocalist, in case you want vocal support as well (no extra fee, of course). My sample tracks: 0 A.D. Main Theme - powerful, thematic music. Roman Defeat - Quiet / sad Germanic Peace 3 - Tranquil / harmonic More tracks can be found at http://www.symphonicaria.com Contact: borishansen@gmail.com
11. You think that was bad? You obviously never played Eye of The Beholder. After delving deep into the sewers, fighting your way past hordes and hordes of critters, and finally defeating the titular Beholder mastermind at the end... ... you're dumped to DOS with a 'Congratulations!' message.
12. Among game composers, I'll go with Inon Zur and Alex Brandon.
13. Well, every type of sample (burst, sustain, crescendo, male/female, different vowel sounds) is recorded in every note over several octaves, so you should be covered there..
14. Some more Project Sam horns samples. Yummy.
15. No - all I can offer you is recommendations. This sample library is just awesome (I bought it myself). What you should consider, though, is how often you'll need voices for your compositions. In my own work, it's more important to have a solid strings library, for example, but damn, if you need vocal supplement, this is the pack to get.
