I have no experience AT ALL

I'm still not going to listen to someone telling me to learn a different language.  It's not going to save me money, and it's definitely not going to save me time.   I will take your expert advice and "get experience".  Thank you.

I can take constructive criticism, but when someone tells me to learn something I don't want to learn, instead of giving helpful information, it kind of defeats the purpose of this forum.  I've already said it twice, and I'll say it again, I know that making the game of my dreams is far in the future, but I still want to learn C++.  I shouldn't have even mentioned my goal.   But once again, thank you for more helpful info.  I have copy and pasted all of this into Notepad just incase I gat banned or this thread gets deleted.  I really do appreciate it.  And yes, UE4 was what I had in mind from the beginning.  :)

Thank you, Fredericvo.   I'm done with this site, but I will come back and look for more HELPFUL replies.   I've already started my journey into C++ with some of your help, thank you very much!

Ovicior, I want to learn C++.  You guys telling me to learn other languages isn't helping. I have money, why would I waste it on tutorials, when you can learn something for free?

Cool negativity, bro.  I'm done here. Thank you Infinisearch and cozzie.  :)

Thanks for the more negative feedback.  Clearly, this isn't the place for beginners.   Like I already mentioned, I don't have any intentions of being able to create the game that I really want to.  But I still want to learn C++ regardless.

Also, thank you, cozzie for your positive input.  I already know I may never be able to make the game I want, but even so learning C++ is still a good skill.  I hope one day I can too help beginners.

No, it won't be years. It'll either be a lifetime, or you'll have built (and somehow acquired large amounts of funding for) a company. If you take the 'MMO' part of it out, it's much more doable. You're basically gonna have to turn GameDev into your life's work in order to make an MMORPG.   Lol, I know someone who single handedly developed a MMORPG in less than 5 years, holds the servers in his basement, and used his middle class job to pay for it.  Of course the graphics were complete shit, but I know it's doable.  And oh boy do I have a lot of time and money on my hands.  Not enough to make a million dollar game, but I would like to see what I can do. The game by the way is:  www.xenimus.com   It used to be very popular, but now it's garbage and dead, because the solo owner of the game doesn't know how to make players happy.

I know it'll be years before I can even begin to make it,  but I want to make a hack and slash MMORPG.

Thanks for the advice, Bregma.  I'm a stubborn fool and I will probably regret it, but I would like to stick with C++ only for now.  I don't care how long it takes, I am set on C++ and I'm sticking with it. Thank you, Infinisearch, I will look into these and see what I can learn.

I only chose C++ because I saw that more high end games use it.  And if I'm going to learn anything, I'm just going to go with the best of the best.  I know it can take many years, but I would like to learn C++.  I'm willing to devote most of my time and effort into doing so.  I just have no idea where to start.  I may purchase a book if I have to, but I thought I'd start here.
  12. Hello.  For many years it has been a dream of mine to make my own video game, but with school and work I have not had any time to devote to this.  I now have finished my degree, and I have plenty of free time. I literally have no experience with any language or any graphics design!  I have read the FAQs and it doesn't say anything in there where to get started. So obviously I need to start with a language.  After research, I've decided that C++ is what I want to learn, but I can not find any beginner friendly tutorials that do not cost money.  So if you know of any good ones, it would be very much appreciated!!!!!!  I have downloaded a few programs for C++ off of tutorials on YouTube (such as GNU Prolog and Cygwin64), but I have no idea how to use them together, and if they are the proper ones for Game Dev. Sorry if this post is not allowed, I just don't know where to start, and I would really love to get into Game Dev.  I don't want to have to go to more school for programming, haha. Thank you very much!  :D
