  1. Horizon:zero Dawn Cloud System

Hello, its not immediately clear what numbers you are dealing with but based on the ranges, you should be sure to clamp the result.

height_fade is calculate from weather type? We use a 2d texture lookup for Cirrus clouds but plug the density samples into our lighting model. Currently we tiled some monochrome images of actual Cirrus clouds. This will be fully procedural in the future though. height_fade is calculate from weather type? We use a triple henyey-greenstein phase function. I'll add an implementation to our slides. They should go online in 2.5 weeks or so. The talk is 2 weeks from yesterday! I better get back to making the slides. 😀 Awesome. With enough noise sources and instructions you should be able to model everything. That is our goal in the long run at least. As processing power increases, the amount you can purchase with 2ms increases as well.

Hello again, I'm going to be presenting a 40 Minute Talk at SIGGRAPH 2017 as part of the Advances course again. I am going to cover the noise generation and weather system as well as our authoring approach and some other updates. If it is allowed, I will share the Houdini tool that I made to generate our noise with the public. This way you can also experiment with other configurations. Hope you can make it or review the slides when the come out. Andrew PS this is awesome!!!

Sorry for the late reply. We are hard at work on Horizon.    I am looking into the best way to answer a lot of the questions that we have been getting over the past year or so. I need to discuss this with my colleages.   Please stand by until after you see Horizon on the shelves.    Best,   Andrew

Hi Everyone. Andrew Schneider here.   It is really exciting to see all of this progress in our narrow field of realtime volumetric cloudscapes. A lot of our approach to cloud modeling relies on the noise textures, indeed. The examples above look very close to our cloud model - and better in some respects. Awesome.   We purposefully left code like sphere intersection out of the GPU pro article because it can be found easily. Graphics Gems (1998) P. 388, for example. The weather texture is also something we didn't elaborate on because it is just the result of combining several types of scrolling noise. We even hand paint some.
