    Steam and Stuff

    Ok so im making a game but i have run into some problems with it. Im adding an inventory system and i want it to work with steams inventory system. Also I will love to use steams servers (for the game online part) but i dont know if thats allowed, and then i dont have to worry about paying for servers every month if i do get to use them. Last but not lease is the steam work shop, I would like to have it work with my game. I am using Unreal Engine and i dont know how to code that well so i am using blueprints to make my life a bit easier. Im not expecting you to give me the answers exactly but links and other info would be great!

    3d max help

    Maybe I miss read this. But why would I use the second choice for first person game. If I'm going for a clean animation?

    3d max help

    I'm about to start modeling guns. But I also wish to give them an animation. So here is my question. Do I need to model the gun in different parts to make the animation? Aka the trigger, and the chamber of the gun where it release the bullet.

    c++ Where are my mistakes

    Ok so here is some info about the code. Im trying to set up a timer on a particular effect. On the unreal engine. the language is c++ and no this is not homework. I was reading some documents from unreal engine about timers and i was trying to set it up and i dont know where i have made my mistakes. I have try re reading the doc to see where i may have made my mistakes but cant find it. I have also done some google searches to see if any one has ask the same question with similer code. also ples excuse my bad English.    // Fill out your copyright notice in the Description page of Project Settings.   #include "Test_1.h" #include "Countdown.h"     // Sets default values ACountdown::ACountdown() {   // Set this actor to call Tick() every frame.  You can turn this off to improve performance if you don't need it. PrimaryActorTick.bCanEverTick = false;   CountdownText = CreateDefaultSubobject<UTextRenderComponent>(TEXT("CountdownNumber")); CountdownText->SetHorizontalAlignment(EHTA_Center); CountdownText->SetWorldSize(150.0f); RootComponent = CountdownText;   CountdownTime = 3;   }   // Called when the game starts or when spawned void ACountdown::BeginPlay() { Super::BeginPlay();   UpdateTimerDisplay(); GetWorldTimerManager().SetTimer(CountdownTimerHandle, this, &ACountdown::AdvanceTimer, 1.0f, true); }   // Called every frame void ACountdown::Tick( float DeltaTime ) { Super::Tick( DeltaTime );   }   void ACountdown::UpdateTimerDisplay() { CountdownText->SetText(FString::FromInt(FMath::Max(CountdownTime, 0))); }   void ACountdown::AdvanceTimer() { --CountdownTimer; UpdateTimerDisplay(); if (CountdownTime < 1) { //Countdown is done, Stoping timer. GetWorldTimerManager().ClearTimer(CountdownTimerHandle); //Perform any special actions we want to do when the timer ends. CountdownHasFinished(); } }   void ACountdown::CountdownHasFinished() { //Change to a speacial readout CountdownText->SetText(TEXT("GO!")); }

    Coding for nubs

    First, your IP address says you're in Texas. So if English is your native language, then act like it. Second, you don't need someone to teach you, you need to learn to ask intelligent questions. While a bit dated now, I recommend you read this: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html Third, the way to go about this is to pick a project that is within reach and do it. So "Pong clone" might be within reach but "first person shooter" is not. Once you have a project, you can start breaking down the key things you need for that project to begin existing, and then learn how to do them. If you're even before that stage, then I recommend that you find a good book on C# programming. It seems like there are a lot of good options: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=C%23+programming And since the Internet can be a somewhat overwhelming and disorganized trove of information at the start, a book can really help clarity and focus to get rolling. I will try getting one of these books to see if they help. Also English is not my first language. I know I can't make a fps at the beginning. Iv made a 2d platform already.

    Coding for nubs

    Ok so as seen above im a complete nub when it comes to coding stuff. I have tried web sites and YouTube videos to teach me how to code but the problem im having is not being able to ask why do i use that piece of code and not another. So i can understand what it does. So is their a way that i can be able to ask these questions and still be taught. PS im 17 so i dont have money to pay people to teach me.

    Where to start?

    Thank you. I real do like all the reply i got for this topic. Im wanting to make an fps that no one has done yet that i have found.

    Where to start?

    Where do i start. So i want to be able to make my own games. I have made a basic 2d platformed. And i can make basic home objects on 3ds max. What else do i need to learn so i can make a great game one day? I know this may be a bit broad. But i have not found any one who is willing to tell me every thing it takes to make a game.
