  1.   Thank you! :) Big Announcement! We are LIVE on Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight! Please consider supporting us! :) KS: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1806160598/rise-of-the-king?ref=user_menu Greenlight: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=904973711   Here's our Campaign Trailer:
  2. Thank you! Glad you're digging it! :)
  3. Big news! Our kickstarter is launching on April 18th! Here's our announcement teaser!
  4. We've been working on updating the forest with some new assets and effects! Still have to fix up something to tie in the base of the trees though, they look kind of funny just sticking out. :P
  5. Our Kickstarter is almost here, and as tired as we are, we're still finding enough energy to be a little nervous lol XD Here are some concept pieces we're going to be using for publicity of our campaign. Artist is Kirk Quilaquil   Frozen Mountain Landscape Concept. Wolf Combat Concept.
  6. A couple more random screenshots. Our Kickstarter is fast approaching, and we're trying to put some final touches on everything.
  7. We've had our heads down trying to finish up everything for our kickstarter coming up in March, but I wanted to give a brief overview of the investigation/quest gameplay we're in the process of implementing! Here's a look at the player's journal, which will hold all the clues you discover as you travel. There is no fast travel in Rise of the King, which means you're going to have to hoof it yourself. Make sure you're adequately prepared and that the weather is conducive to venturing out! Once you arrive at the manor, your investigation begins in earnest. Look for clues, talk to the residents... ...And deal with the invading wolves!
  8. Hey all! :) Wanted to introduce you to our WIP game: Rise of the King. Rise of the King is a third-person action-adventure game with survival elements, set within a medieval fantasy world. You will have to survive as you travel across the dangerous lands on your journey to find answers as you investigate the disappearance of a missing child. Our gameplay is a (hopefully  ) unique combination of survival, action and investigation mechanics to flesh out the experience. Help us choose an engine

no problem! :) Wish I could've been more helpful.   I don't have a lot of experience with the 2D side of Unity, but from what I've heard around the grapevine yeah, it has a few quirks and 2D is not it's strength (I have no sources and no firsthand knowledge to back that up...just repeating hearsay, so take it for whatever it's worth :P)

    Finding my creative niche.....

I was almost in the exact same boat as you a few years ago. I loved writing, and wanted to be creative any way I could manage, but Video games was my dream. I didn't have a team at the time, and didn't have the skills to do the art or programming by myself, so I was kind of stuck. there were so many skills I needed to learn that it was just overwhelming...so I sat down and tried to figure out what one skill I could learn while still writing that would give me a finished product...and I hit upon audio. I started making audio dramas and stories, working on strengthening my writing while learning the ins and outs of audio production. If you're interested, here's one of the stories I did, which is also about depression, so there's another boat we're in together :)   Not saying it has to be audio, that's just the avenue I took cause I had a little experience already and a lot of friends interested in acting. You said you're working on a card game? Keep working on it! maybe make that you're avenue. make it super creative, maybe think of a way to weave your writing or storytelling through that...idk. just keep at it and think outside the box :)

    Help us choose an engine

Just from what I know, I don't think Unreal would fit your project at all. Unity is always solid! Gamemaker is also probably one of you're best bets. :) You said it's 2D, but are you planning it to be top-down 2D, or more side-scroller 2D? If top down, there are a couple other engines that you could check out: RPG maker: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/ And here's another one that's similar, but a little different (not sure if it's better or worse though lol) http://rpg.hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/Main_Page
