  1. im not so concerned, just curious as im not profiting from any of this. i didnt realize visual studio 2008 express edition was free to download. i'll have to check that out! thanks.
  2. I work for an IT company, and thus have access to Microsoft development tools such as the latest Visual Studio IDE and the like. This was never an issue/question until recently when I started working on some web-related projects for a friend (his business). I am not making any money off of these projects as I am offering my services pro-bono. So far i've stuck with using my personal computer w/ my own personal development tools for this. So, to play devil's advocate, what if I used my company laptop for this (which would give me access to the latest and greatest MS dev tools that i dont have on my personal box)? I KNOW this is probably not a good idea, but who/how on earth would anybody find out?
  3. I fired up my desktop and i couldnt get a network connection. I tried ipconfig releasing, renewing, and flushing dns...all the usual stuff to get connected...but with no avail. I also have a laptop which uses the same network cable to connect to my cable modem. I can confirm that I do have internet access. But the desktop machine, when the cable is plugged in, starts to rapidly flash yellow/red-orange immediately. I've never seen this before. It's not the slow blink that im used to seeing. And so the desktop is unable to make a connection. Even rebooting doesn't help. Re-plugging the cable doesn't help. It seems to be an issue with the system. Now the day before I browsed quite a bit using the desktop. And i even went to some ware_z related sites that my friend pointed out some hacks for a game. never had issues (nothing noticeable any way). Then i placed the machine on standby mode, after which point i unplugged the cable (so i could use the laptop). Perhaps unplugging the cable while the machine was in standby shortcircuited the network card??? Googling this doesn't really bring up any thing either. Thanks in advance.
  4. Amazon.com's packaging label.

    Thanks Drazgal. Case closed.
  5. Amazon.com's packaging label.

So i'm thinking about using Amazon.com for the first time. - Does anybody have any complaints or warnings about Amazon.com in general? - Does amazon have a good return policy (like if the package is opened or the contents are broken)? - Does Amazon place their label on the packaging? Or is it a plain box with no labels others the destination address? Thanks guys, and Happy new year.
  6. Sanders. Yup. Although enitrely incorrect, that was exactly my initial thinking. And what are you, like 5 years old?
  7. that is extremely close (perhaps same technology) that the BOA site is doing (except it doesn't have the + and - symbols). And what is jquery? i'm trying to use ASP.Net AJAX.
  8. If you login to Bank of America, you can see that it uses panels (on the side) which you can click to make it expand and contract. What kind of technology and control is this? I'm guessing this is AJAX (asynchronous javascript and xml). Anyhow, i'd like to know how they did this. Any ideas?
  9. cell phone jammers

Thanks caseyd. Of course im aware of this being illegal. But once i get my hands on such a device, it'd be impossible for the fed's to track me down. In fact, as long as im discrete about it, itd be impossible for anybody to know the device is in my pocket. Besides, once phones around me in the movie theatre are scrambled, those idiots will just assume they can't get a signal. They cant talk on the phone, which means me and a bunch of other folks end up being happy. Think of it like Batman. sure it's illegal to run thru red lights with a jet-engine powered vehicle in the city, but Batman actually does something about the problems in the world. Note: i will not be importing any illegal device for fear of fcc or customs or whatever federal department seeing it (me) as a threat (yeah right).
  10. cell phone jammers

Has anybody ordered (or made) one of these before? I'm sitting in the library here and there's this couple who just sat down and apparantly think this library is their office. They keep making business-related phone calls. I really wish i had a phone jammer at this time. It would also come extremely handy during movies as almost every theater has atleast one who keep yapping away on his/her phone. Im concerned about importing one of these because the U.S. customs might fine me for it. So the best thing might be for me to make it. Can anybody help me out?
  11. I'm trying to use nunit-console.exe so that when i run my .Net application in debug mode, nunit-console will run and verify all unit tests. After nunit runs to completion, then the .net application should start. Right now I have the project properties -> debug -> Start external program setting set to nunit-console.exe with the respective command line arguments. When I run in debug mode the unit test will run successfully, but the app does not run. Am I missing something here? Should I be running my unit tests during build-time and not run-time?
  12. Has anybody seen this and/or know the solution? I have a TextBox that has its DataBindings property set within a DataTable within a DataSet. Here is the weird issue: - The TextBox is disabled and not-visisble. But once i apply text to it (via another form) and click OK, the textBox gets visible, which then causes the DataBind to occur. The visisble = true seems to cause this in addition to causing it to appear to the user. - Any time after this the TextBox does not get updated even though it DataBinded to the new updated text. I am calling AcceptChanges. I tried calling Invalidate followed by Update on the TextBox I tried calling Refresh on the TextBox None of the above steps seems to work. The only thing I didnt try was disabling and re-enabling the Visisble property. What is the cause of this weird issue?

  14. So i discovered that my phone has bluetooth capability. My computer however does not. I would like to create J2ME games and download them on to my phone (Samsung SGH-T509). What hardware is out there that would allow my desktop (development machine) to communicate with my phone via Bluetooth? I've seen bluetooth dongles, but they seem to be associated with their respective devices, such as phones, printers, keyboards, and mice. anyone know?
  15. Calling all you database query experts.

Oops. I apologize. I forgot to mention that everything is retrieved and is stored within a DataSet. The Table I speak of exists within this DataSet. And yeah, I do understand how ugly the query could potentially get. Namely inner joining in addition to nested selects.
