  1. Thanks, very helpful. How do you build your own UI-widets in Unity though? Is there a tutorial for that? Also, instead of relying on Unity UI, I thought about basically simulating an UI. Define the custom UI elements as regular assets and animate them just like you would do with sprites etc. Of course, it's more of a hassle that way and lots of custom behaviors need to be added, but one would be far less restricted to the Unity UI framework rules and such. Your thoughts? By the way: How pixel-perfect is Unity? If you put a button somewhere, does it stay there in that position without any hacks or will it float around the screen and you need to anchor it through some kludges?
  2. Hi, I have a project in mind, which would be mostly played in a GUI-like interface (think Democracy, Uplink) Is the GUI-toolset in Unity up for the part? Also, there are tons of examples on how to create a jump and run game, isometric strategy etc. in Unity, but not many resources which cover GUI-centric games. I would be grateful for any tips and links. Thanks.
  3. Thanks for the suggestions. I've looked a bit around and found out that Unity has free 2D skeletal animation built-in: https://blogs.unity3d.com/2016/12/02/unity-expands-2d-offerings-with-anima2d/ Given this, are the tools you mentioned worth it, or is the Unity offering good enough?
  4. Hi, I know how to code and have some very basic experience regarding 3D, but I have no experience whatsoever in creating 2D assets for a game. But I want to get started. So, what's the hottest program currently to create simple "indy" 2D assets in the style of Prison Architect, Papers Please, Game Dev Tycoon etc. ? I have zero experience with this. Obviously, I know that you need to draw a picture basically. But, you also need to animate it, so you need to have a program that creates a bunch of tweened frames and so on... What's the best thing on the market for this? Should easily work with Unity by the way.
