The Battlefield V "Historical Accuracy" Controversy

I mean that there is none existing right now, not that it's impossible to have.

Second, I don't see a problem in wanting a boys space in itself, but your space literally takes up the entire playground. Any space I go to, like movies, games, comics, etc, are all male dominated. So what are you doing in movies if it's a boy space? ... it's not. There's no such thing as a boy only club. Why can't I have one?

Harlem Hellfighters had less than 10% into combat roles. The european front was a huge majority of whites. That's really an argument of history now and I'm no expert, but you can find lots of blogs/videos that go into details.

I've made plenty of games, but I haven't sold any because I do it for a hobby.

The definition of normal is "confirming to a standard". I was the standard and you broke the standard. There is nothing negative nor positive about the word, it's just factually descriptive.

But why can't I have a boy only club? Am I a sexist? A bigot? A monster? Why am I wrong for wanting that? And back to case 1. If you're gonna answer to that, you explain to me why I'm wrong. If you think I'm wrong and you are right, you imply that you are better than me. That's called moralizing and I don't like that. Nope. Have toppings on YOUR pizza. Don't touch mine.

BF1 with lots of black soldiers in ww1. No 'normal' gamer thinks this is a good idea. From my point of view, this is only to cater to SJWs. I said 'everywhere' as a figure of speech. It's not everywhere, but you see it more and more. Well, there's 2 schools of thought here. Yours that believe the player is not important : "Your contribution to the game is zero". And mine that believes the player is everything: "Your contribution to the game is the reason why the game exists".

Who are you trying to cater? I personally don't want that. Some people may want that. Decide for yourself.

A game that alters facts to cater to SJWs. That's what forcing diversity is and it's everywhere. It's not for fun, there's a reason. This reason is my first line above. To me, this reason is valid. Maybe to you it's not. Ask yourself who made battlefield a success. Who bought the games year after year. Do you want to pay attention to their demands? That question is to you only to answer. You have the right to ignore their demands but live with the fact that you'll upset this group.

I've had a similar idea over night. My proposal is to add the following check boxes to the Options menu of my next game: [x] Disable Chromatic Abberation [x] Force 60 FPS [x] Replace Female Models With Males I think you didn't understand what I said. I said there is no problem with having Lara a female because SHE IS. Stop trying to alter the facts to cather to the fragile SJWs. What about you get a spine and stand straight instead of cathering to the loud minority. Well, you can do that if you want to make games for that niche market. The majority of gamers are not SJWs. The difference is that those changes were not to cater to SJWs.

You're right, but Battlefield ins't at it's second iteration. After 5+ battlefield games, I can expect the series to continue in the same direction. A minority of extremists is not representative of the group. An adult can have an opinion without having to justify himself. This isn't an argumentation, this is just what I want. The waiter doesn't asks you why you eat a burger instead a salad. He serves the burger and leaves you alone. A men only game doesn't mean I exclude anyone from playing it. I can play an adventure game with a female character like Tomb Raider without feeling rejected for not being able to change Lara's sex, and I can also like my war games with males. The argument that no female characters in war games excludes female players is utter bullshit. They were never excluded in the first place. I'm not denying you the right to understand the origin, but I'm not the person to ask. I am not a psychologist. Try a psychology forum instead.

I'm one of those that didn't like the trailer either and Michael Aganier's posts had a good indication of what is wrong with it. What if you go eat to the same burger house 5 times in a row and you eat the same burger (as analogy to the older BFs). The 6th time, you ask for a burger, but you get a salad (as the new BFs that are being changed). It's basically the same thing as saying "look fatty, you've been eating too much burgers, take a salad, it's good for your health". How the hell can't you see how moralizing is that? I see many people jumping on personal attacks like "they are men boys who can't accept women in their games". Okay. So what is wrong with me liking games with men combatants only? Now, don't answer to that, because that's the definition of moralizing. There's nothing wrong with games with women. It's you that are trying to give me something I never asked, not the other way around.

I didn't think it was a good trailer either and I'm disapointed by the hostility towards a fellow gamedev who only shares his point of view. Most of you guys didn't bother reading anything Michael Aganier said. You're taking his words out of context and making him say things he never said.
  14. If your maps are procedurally or programmatically generated, you could scale them at the same scale of your units. If big units still don't work well in cities, it might be a pathfinding problem. It could work better if your units can traverse cities by telling smaller groups to move independently so that it's not one big blob. The idea is to fragment your units in their movements. You could achieve a similar result by fixing the unit scale, but having a setting on the number of units. If the player raises the maximum number of units, then their scale is still matching the maps'.
  15. Mathematically, this is how it works either in 2d or 3d. But implementation wise, you don't explicitly move everything else when you want to move the player perspective. You encapsulate this player perspective in some kind of camera class, and when rendering calls are called on objects, the renderer offsets the object position by the camera position hence creating the effect that the player is moving. In 2D, this can be as simple as substracting the camera position from object position. In 3d, you multiply the projection-view matrix by the object model matrix.
