  1. Good Morning everyone! I had to take a bit of a break from school/weekly goals to attend to some issues but I am back on track this week with another goal I have set for myself! I will say I love writing this in this blog. Its a great way to stay accountable. My goal this week will be to start working on learning C#. As I have mentioned in other/previous posts I am still new to all of this. I will say what I have learned so far has blown me away. I never knew how interesting all this was until I started doing it! Since I am going to be doing a bit of traveling this week it was recommended to me to download an app called Sololearn. Apparently it is a good way to get learn on the go. I'll update on my impressions about this app shortly -LaurenDenise

    Weekly Goal #2

  3. As I said in my previous post I will be creating weekly goals for myself on Saturday's and then reviewing them the next Saturday. This week I plan to try and understand Maya a little bit more and get a little better at working with the program. My goal is to do a little self teaching and try and polish up the areas that are not the strongest for me. ~ ~~For the week of March 5-9, 2018~~

    Small Update

I've been very busy with my schooling this past week so I figured I'd give a small update today! I've decided to set a goal for myself each week. This week's my goal was to become more active within the community. I was able to achieve this goal by joining various sites and organizations such as gamdev.net, igda, LinkedIn, and Twitter. I feel pretty good about this as I finally feel like I have a decent start in getting to know others in the industry!

Advice Game Design Student Looking fo Advice

This definitely helped! I appreciate it! I'm the same as you were! I rarely spend time drawing (which lucky is something I can do!). I have already started to dabble in Maya because it is the program the school has us learning on and I find it to be quite interesting and fun. I've never used 3D studio max but that may be something I look into! I was pretty bummed out to find that I can't use anything from Maya because I am using the student version...As of right now I'm leaning more towards wanting to start off small and work my way up. Who know's I may never end up wanting to work for a AAA studio but I can agree it does help to be versed in a few programs and they really do/will help me decided where to go from there.
  6. You're welcome! Glad I could help a bit!
  7. I'm currently enrolled in the game design Bachelors program at Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL. I'm an online student though because I moved from FL. And I can say you will probably want to attend class on campus (if you find yourself considering this school) because in my opinion the online class leaves you to fend for yourself a bit. Which isn't bad but it can be challenging at times. But I do know that the bachelors program has you dabble in a little bit of everything. I know its not a Master's degree but they do have one available although the topics you listed would be in the bachelors program rather than the Masters. My school has a lot of mixed reviews but I haven't found it to be a bad school as some say. I hope this helps a little bit in regards to this school at least!

I'm about 2 hours away from Chicago where there is an IGDA chapter I was wanting to join. As for the WIGI group I'll have to look into that! I haven't heard of it before. Thank you!

    First Post!

Here it is! My first post in my new blog Starting today I will be updating this just about everyday with something new I learned, tips and tricks I have acquired and just any information regarding game design. My hope for this is to meet others who are relatively new to game design and/or help each other along the way! -LaurenDenise
  14. Good Morning everyone! I'm relatively new to the game industry. Games have always been a huge part of my life and who I am as a person, it wasn't until the last year or so that I strongly considered learning how to create them. I've been taking online classes in game design and have just now started to dabble in learning how to use various programs such as Maya, Unity etc. As an online student I feel rather isolated. I am trying to figure out how to get more involved in the community (hence the reason I made this account). What are some ways you guys recommend that I as an online student network and meet others? Also, on top of what I am learning what "extra learning" would you all recommend to a student who has little to no prior experience? Thank You!
