  2. Dinosaurs and Evangelism

Quote:Original post by King of Men ...and on page 23, the debate died. As far as this lurker is concerned, it died on page 19: Quote:Original post by Kelendil My faith comes first and it directs me to not believe in evolution. Not because evolution isn't good enough but because I believe in the Bible. After such a straightforward admission of defeat, why continue the debate?
  3. A program that made two instances of Eliza talk to each other. The result was stupid. Quote: E1: Hi! I'm Eliza. I am your personal therapy computer. Please tell me your problem. E2: Did you come to me because you are my personal therapy computer? E1: What makes you think I am your personal therapy computer? E2: How long have you been my personal therapy computer? E1: We were discussing you --not me. E2: We were discussing you --not me. E1: Oh, --not you? E2: Oh, Oh, --not me? E1: Are you saying no just to be negative? 6. Favorite Game Phrase! Post Them!

"Lifelike death animations" -- Ad for Hitman: Codename 47 "Well, that seems to have shaved the proverbial dingo." "Take a long walk on a short pier, ya craven wretch." -- Ozzie Mandrill, Escape from Monkey Island
  7. Intelligent Chip

Amazing new gadget that will "upgrade" your audio CDs "in the blink of an eye". I mailed the inventor and asked him if the Intelligent Chip would also remove all bugs from my WinXP disc. He replied that Quote: the chip will work on any type of digital disc, including video DVDs and such. The chip apparently addresses a particular problem in the digital discs which I'm fairly certain is actually in the Disc *material* itself not in the data. I.e., the data on the CD or DVD is not changed by the chip, only the polycarbonate and maybe the metal layer. The change in the material allows the laser reading process to be more accurate. Makes you wonder, doesn't it? Why even bother with education and serious work, when there's a sucker born every minute, just waiting to be parted with his money? I hate being cynical, but what other options are there?
  8. Where do the nerd girls hang out?

Quote:Original post by Ainokea The real question is, where do the HOT nerd girls hang out? I knew a hot nerd girl once. But she stopped being a nerd one day, when she realized just how hot she was. Suddenly she was out of my reach.
  9. War without gain or loss ...

He. Reminds me of Stanislaw Lem's novel Peace on Earth from 1987. Automatization and miniaturization have gone so far that "wars" are fought by swarms of intelligent little robot insects. At the same time, arms race (this was written before the fall of Soviet, remember) has become so obcenely expensive that the world leaders agree to ship the automated arms production to the Moon. There, robot armies will fight it out and evolve by Darwinian principles. Military "weapons" are banned on Earth, and the Moon is off-limits to everyone. Countries still have advanced weaponry being developed, but it doesn't cost anything, and the risk for WW3 is eliminated. Everyone is happy. Until people start getting paranoid that the little machines are planning an attack on Earth.

Quote:Original post by Pouya My country's penis is longer than your country Pfth. My entire country is penis-shaped, all 1500km of it. Looking somewhat slack, I admit, but still...
  12. Version control

Quote:Original post by darookie SubVersion perhaps? Thanks, I'll take a look. Quote:And what is a version control system that 'doesn't suck' to you? One that allows you to checkout a file exclusively (like VSS) and prevents conflicts to occur instead of trying to resolve them later (like CVS). And doesn't take ages to configure. Sorry, I was a bit vague.
  13. Does anyone know of a free version control system that (1) Doesn't suck, and (2) Is not CVS, and (3) Communicates through TCP/IP ?

  15. Rumor that OpenGL is Dying
