  1. Project Name : Galaxy: Civil war Roles Required : 2D & 3D artists, unity developers, programmers, unity particle system designers, SFX artists My Role : Project manager & assistant programmer My Previous Projects : essenburgmultimedia dot nl Team Size : 12 Project Length : 6 months – 1 year Description : We’re working on a homeworld 2 like game with ship customization. The goal of our project is to deliver something close to a professional production and to keep it simple as to not get bogged down by feature creep. The most important thing about the project is that it actually gets done and looks good; more features can always be added later. We pretty much have enough programmers(except for network programmers) and audio people but we are still looking for artists. So we are looking for some artists to make 3D spaceships+textures, buttons and/or skyboxes. We also need some sound effects that sound as if they are coming from under water. Apart from that we also need people who have experience with unity and who can add particle effects that are up to specs to our weapons fire for example. See http://galaxycivilwar.com/ for slightly more info and please feel free to send me a PM or apply on the site if you are interested. Make sure to include some of your work so that we have an indication of the quality you can produce. A little preview:

    The idea is forming but.....

What you are describing is a designers job. Later on in your text you inform us that you are a programmer. Those are two very different things. Designers think of gameplay and the implementation of gameplay, programmers think of how to make the game work in terms of efficiency, stability and function. Its perfectly fine to be 'just a programmer' and just practice using games that already exist. There are people who do both designing and programming, but they are usually better at one or the other. About all ideas being similar; its also a matter of opinion. People always seek patterns in things based on similarities. Games with strategy in them are strategy games, games with sports in them are sports games, games with both can be seen as both a sport and a strategy game. All FPS games have in common that its a shooter, so they are all using 'ideas' that have already been done before. Just look at the battle royale genre. Its relatively new and at first there were only a few games in that category, but as developers made more and more battle royale games it became a genre of its own. There is no shame in doing something that has been done before or that is based on ideas of others. Every now and then a truly original idea comes along, but you can bet that that idea is also based on something else or at least evolved from something else. TLDR: dont worry about making stuff that has already been done before, just try to find a way to make it a bit more unique, efficient, better looking or just better in some other area. That being said, I feel like the idea you are struggling with is creativity. Some people just arent creative and should accept this about themselves and focus on other areas. However, if you do want to 'force destiny' and change your skillset (or just become better at something you feel isnt good enough about you yet), then I suggest to just look at other games. Analyze what makes them fun. Write those things down and see if you can combine a few. Or just play games and every time you think 'oh its a shame i cant do this or that in this game' or 'you know what a good addition to this game would be?' then you write that down. Then you can make a similar game but with the thing that you felt was lacking included and you will have made something that other people might also think was lacking, increasing your chances of succes. And if all else fails you can always try mushrooms or brainstorm with friends Good luck!
