Fill out our application form or contact a Producer on the Discord server! Who are we Really A Studio (RAS) is an independent game development team. RAS was founded on the 30th of October 2018 as a bootstrap startup with the goal of creating innovative, quality video games. Our incredible team consists of passionate designers, artists, 3D technologists, sound engineers, and content producers from all around the globe working together to create great games. Our first and current project is Astroworks, a singleplayer sci-fi action game set to release in 2019Q1. Astroworks Concept Astroworks is a story-driven 3d arcade space combat action game. Fight against a galactic megacorporation turned evil with multiple spaceship choices, heaps of weapons and abilities, featuring tons of explosions! Embark on challenging missions which include fighting against swarms of enemy battle drones, blowing up enemy capital ships, sabotaging factories, spaceship races and more! Today's topics: Abilities part 1 This is only a description of the abilities but gameplay about using them is going to be ready very soon. Please don’t let this turn you off though, because I’m going to boost your morale right after this! On this weekend we are going to release an Astroworks reveal trailer, featuring some gameplay, along with bits taken from a cutscene – conveniently a cutscene right before the mission called „Supercharge!” begins, so be on the lookout! There were never a better time to be subscribed to our YT channel and to get notified about this right when it goes up on Twitter! Abilities are special powers which can be used to overcome enemies. There are 6 abilities throughout the game. In this post only 3 of them are going to be introduced to reduce it’s length. They are going to be unlocked gradually as you progress through the story. At the beginning of each mission, on the briefing screen you are going to be able to choose from 2 abilities to bring on that particular mission. In game you are going to be able to use them by pressing either the Q or the E keys. After usage abilities enter a short cooldown period and while that lasts, they are unusable. Cooldowns are very short though! Decoy The very first ability available to the player from the beginning is Decoy, which creates a hologram that looks identical to the player and keeps doing whatever the player was doing at the moment of its’ creation. When you activate this ability the hologram will fire upon enemies which get in range with the weapon equipped at the time of activating the ability, diverting their attention. The decoy is created at the same place the player occupies, has no collision with other spaceships and doesn’t deal damage. The basic use of the decoy ability is to distract enemy spaceships by confusing them, so they don’t know which spaceship is the real one. Electrify Generates electric current and sends it towards an enemy defensive structure. The structure is disabled for 10 seconds and takes continuous damage. Once the target of this ability has been set, it is impossible for enemy spaceships to obstruct it. The electrify ability is useful when dealing with enemy bases because it allows the player to disable the defensive structures and get close to them without taking damage. Supercharge Activates the boost mode in the thrusters to triple the speed of the spaceship. The thrusters will take some time to recover from the extra effort and this ability will be disabled during this time. The supercharge ability is a short cooldown ability that is most useful for repositioning and for avoiding certain attacks. Previous Devlog: #2 – Call me Bad: Thank you for your attention! Today’s topics: Bad & his spaceship, the Corvette class Before it gets too confusing, Bad is the name of a character. In fact he is going to be the first boss who you will encounter as the Player. Personality Bad is a violent man and will choose the use force on anyone that defies him. Bad likes to do whatever he wants and he will not accept a “no” unless it comes from The Crimson Duke. Leaving destruction and death on his path, he enjoys inflicting pain and fear on other people. Bad usually enjoys the company of other impulsive people who think and act like him. But he hates people that act calm and rarely show his emotions or people who just simply ignore what he has to say. Back Story Taller and stronger than the other kids at his own age, Bad was always bullying the other kids. He liked the idea that the other kids feared him, so he forced them to call him “The bad kid” or simply “Bad”. He didn’t care about studies because he already know where he could use his superior strength and agility to his advantage: in the military forces. Bad passed the entrance physical tests without problems and started training as a soldier and pilot. He was a normal trainee at the start, but his tenacious spirit made him train harder than the other trainees, thus achieving better results at the end of his training. During his training, Bad’s bad behavior made him lot of enemies, but zero friends. Despite Bad’s behavior, he was given command of a pilot unit and sent to various missions. He caused unacceptable damage and destruction during these missions so in the end his boss gave him one last chance to redeem himself: a combined assault with one of his ex-trainee companions unit. Bad’s decisions and impulsiveness together with the lack of collaboration with the other unit caused several deaths from both units and a huge amount of civilian deaths. After his ex-companions united declaration against him during the military trial, Bad was dismissed from the army and put into jail. There, Bad lost all of his regard towards others’ lives. After The Crimson Duke took over Astroworks, Bad received a letter saying that he could be free to do whatever he wanted if he joined Astroworks military forces. Bad answered with this: “Count on me. And call me Bad”. Since then, Bad has acted as The Crimson Duke’s man-in-command in field missions and has been allowed to do whatever he wants as long as the objectives are achieved. Look Corvette The Corvette class enemy spaceship first appears in the boss fight against Bad at around the 60% point in the story. After Bad had been defeated, multiple numbers of slightly weaker Corvettes will appear until the end of the game. Description Special anti-individual spaceship that is considered the elite of Astroworks’ fighting forces. Corvette spaceships will only be released against specific individuals or in situations where the fighters alone won’t suffice. Corvette pilots will get as close as possible to the target before they unleash deadly attacks from an advantageous position. Previous Devlog: #1 – Beginning: Thank you for your attention! Today’s topics: Backstory & the main villain: The Crimson Duke Backstory Astroworks is a galactic megacorporation. It has monopoly status over several markets. It has a severe problem with logistics, because it overexpanded and the speed of travelling between star systems takes a long time and the resource for powering their spaceships are way too expensive. On a small colonial planet called Thars, a new material called filinium (pronounced fiLInium) is discovered in the asteroid belt orbiting it which soon gets used as the fuel for local spaceships and it proves to be extremely effective and also makes the ships move at a much faster speed. Stories about this new miracle fuel starts spreading in the galaxy like wildfire, and the residents of Thars make a nice living out of trading their filinium. Thars has been a scarcely inhabited planet for a long time with only a few small sized colonies scattered across its surface. But now after the discovery, its population started growing and cities started to sprawl. In one of the bigger cities The Azure Ghosts forms, an underground criminal gang with a purpose to raid the trade routes around the planets orbit. Soon enough they start to construct an in-orbit headquarters for themselves, manned with small, weaponized spaceships. Thanks to this they are able to create a nice pirate infrastructure. The Azure Ghosts becomes a formidable foe for any peaceful merchant who wishes to make a profit on filinium. Meanwhile, Astroworks is taken over by an ambitious new leader called The Crimson Duke. He thinks that filinium would make Astroworks the sole biggest power in the galaxy, only if they could get their hands on it. So he decides to rebrand Astroworks to his likings and he sets out to take Thars and all its filinium, no matter the cost. The Crimson Duke (early sketches) Personality The Crimson Duke has a charming and calculating personality. He will use anything within his power to make others work for him. He sees others as mere toys and tools. If anyone refuses his offers, The Crimson Duke will quickly “deal” with them. There are lots of rumours about The Crimson Duke’s deeds. Although he usually tries to make allies with the people he meets as long as they prove useful in any way. This makes most people believe that he is an amiable person. However, when they get to see his true self it’s probably already too late. Back Story (sketch) The Crimson family has controlled the Astroworks megacorporation for more than 50 years. Since childhood, The Crimson Duke’s father was teaching him only one thing thoroughly: “Impose your will on others. It’s the best way to achieve more power.” The words of his father became a lifetime credo for the young Duke. After reaching adulthood, The Crimson Duke started working with his father to usurp the leading role of Astroworks from his uncle. Using any methods necessary, together they persuaded others to work for them or eliminated those who became a threat. If someone proved to be too powerful for a simple elimination, they formed a temporary alliance with friends of their enemies… waiting for the moment when they could “satisfyingly” end it. The continuous blood baths and assassinations along with the fact that The Crimson Duke usually wore red clothes resulted in his nickname. A nickname that he likes because it sparks terror in his enemies. When his father was finally appointed as leader of Astroworks, The Crimson Duke only needed to take care of one last thing. With a proud look on his face, his father didn’t resist when The Crimson Duke sliced his throat with a dagger. With full control over Astroworks, The Crimson Duke started its military appropriation for resources and expansion while causing destruction all over the galaxy. Now, The Crimson Duke has set his eyes on a promising new resource: filinium. If he achieves control over its production, Astroworks will finally be the greatest megacorporation in the galaxy. And The Crimson Duke believes that he will fulfill his objective to be the most powerful man, so powerful that nobody will ever be able to oppose him. The Crimson Duke’s capital ship: Narrator (clay model of the capital ship) (clay model of the command pod detached from the capital ship) Description As the perfect representation of Astroworks’ power, the capital ship Narrator is enormous and has an incredibly high firepower potential. Thanks to its defensive structures no enemy spaceships dare to get close, and thanks to its energy shield it is impossible to damage it from further away. On top of these impregnable defenses the capital ship is able to launch devastating laser beams which obliterate anything caught in its path. Thank you for your attention! 6. Hi, Yes, that's correct, as the thread title implies, I'm "looking to build a team". For the first project there is a detailed concept, timeline, to-do lists, etc. already laid down. It's a simple project, I don't have any delusions that I'm/we're going to build the next Call of Duty or something, what I've meant by the game(s) will be great is that no matter how simple it is, it's going to be polished above the amateurish looking stage. About the game: The concept is about a 3d fast-paced arcade space combat action game. I see it as kind of a practice project for a newly formed group of people, serves the purpose of establishing a bond between team members, seeing how skilled the contributors are, and to give the team a feeling of "I've done something". Not a game changer, super-duper new never-have-been-done-before idea, but the name of this section is indeed "Hobby Projects". I'd like to reveal further information about the game project to those who apply. Thank you.
  7. Thanks for reminding me I've completely forgot mentioning what I do, sorry about that. I'm a 3d modeler, working with both low-poly and high-poly models in Blender. I also have some more extensive experience in commercial graphic design in the product label niche, so I can handle some vector graphics and Illustrator in general.
  8. Welcome! Yes, this is Really A Studio. We are really looking for a team. Our goal is to really enjoy what we are doing (developing games!), and do it good. That means we are going to develop really good games. Goals Our main goal is to finish a single game. And to make it a good one. That’s it for now, but as semi-serious this sounds it’s actually a task we take seriously. Of course the long-term goal is to make games until the rest of our lives, because we love them. We want to run an efficient and organized team, so eventually we do become really an indie game development studio. But understanding that even though you’re enthusiastic (you should be!), there are real life tasks to be taken care of, so in our early stage all we ask from you is to collaborate, be a part of the process, and do spend a few hours a week on building towards our shared goals. Who we are looking for First and foremost, be enthusiastic. If you get at least mildly excited over the keywords “game development” or “i made this game”, you’re qualified! Now the prefered team composition consists of the following: Artist(s) (2d and/or 3d) - 3/4 (myself included) Programmer(s) - 2/2 Game designer(s) - 1/2 Starting out small helps us bond and learn along the path of expanding. Also I’ll be updating this list as soon as a position is filled. What you’re gonna get Revenue shared across team members in percentage of their contributions Being part of a community with like-minded folks Experience and results you can put into your portfolio Interested?
