It was reactionary stupidity Pouya. Yours is corrected. APC's was not reactionary stupidity.

I prefer to not have a hord of gdnet folks spamming the other forum. In any case folks. Thanks for your cooperation or lack there of. Apologies if this thread offended anybody. Bye.

And I give a rat's ass about a rating because?? Serious, I felt this would be an interesting experiment. It's blown up, though the results are still interesting. Thanks.

    The one word thread

Quote:Original post by Pouya Quote:Original post by haro I was mostly interested in it from a sociological point of view. No, you weren't. You just wanted to get a shot at the hottest topics list after seeing the success of the very top item in there (the Single Word Game). This is not the first time someone has attempted this. No, I started this thread on two forums with entirely different demographics. I was curious how the demographic makeup would impact the 'stream', especially when starting with a relatively loaded first word. Why the hell would I want to be on the "hottest topics list"? Until now, I was not aware there was one. The only reason I used this site was the conflicting demographic.

The first replies were more than sufficient to sum up my opinion of where gamedev's gone. [grin] Its gone to a better place, where people don't play along with this juvenile bullshit. That is way too ironic.

Here's the deal. All posts in this thread, besides this one, must be exactly one word. That word must be at least remotely related in some way to the previous word posted in the thread even if you're the only one who knows how it is. I'm curious where this'll go! I'll start it off: POKER

What do you think of this Computer Science major?

Quote:Original post by pi_equals_3 Quote:Original post by haro Go to UT Austin. It's more affordable, has a fine program and most importantly - has great night life. There's also lots of vegetarian restaurants and asian girls, if you're into either of those. And stay here long enough and you'll probably be able to tell everybody you met Lord British. [grin] Before you can say that UT Austin is more affordable, you have to factor in just how easy it is to go to school here for free. For the estimated tuition, UTD is a pretty good school. For free, this place is amazing. I'd rather be impaled with a very long broom stick than live in Dallas, but to each their own. Seriously though, it's also pretty easy to get a full ride at Austin. If you can't manage that, you can pick up a decent chunk of your costs in grants/scholarships and have very minimal loans. I'm a horrible student who refuses to graduate, yet they still pay 100% of my costs.

    Left or Right?

I would be extremely fiscally conservative if our free market had anything even remotely resembling perfect competition. But as it stands, monopolies ( or at least mega corporations ) are the norm, consumers are extremely ill informed and tend to be irrational, technology is 'patented' years before it even exists and there's social stigma/externalities abound. So what you're left with is our entirely broken 'free market'. There is a dire need of regulation, as the gap between the have and have nots increases ever more rapidly.

    Investing

Any sort of investing is always contrained by the fact that high risk offers high rewards and low risk offers low rewards. If you're not investing a significantly large amount of money, or willing to risk losing it, then you will not see any significant return within the next decade. Pay off your car.

    Disappearing taskbar icons?

Quote:Original post by Muhammad Haggag It is worth noting that sometimes the icons disappear, even if you disable the "Hide Inactive Icons" option. Notification area bug, I suppose. I had the same problem. A fix is to right click->properties->customize and manually change any icons you need to always be available to 'always show'. Nasty, but it works at least.
