  2. Android game dev mark 0

Hello, Android? So, after a very long hiatus, I have decided once again to make an attempt to make a few games. My ambitions are small, but I told myself that if I didn't make at least one game I'd really be pissed at myself. My ulterior motive is that I really want to begin learning to develop on A mobile platform, and since I have an android phone, android it is. Not to mention my day job is .net web developer and java is a close cousin to c#, which I'm used to (and I don't want to buy a mac just now or build a hacintosh etc.). I've even been offered a job developing on the android OS, so this could branch into new career options. Wins all around. When I initially was interested in game development straight out of college, things were much simpler than they are now. I didn't realize it until trying to find a starting point for this adventure how the myriad of platforms, technologies, languages, and libraries have just exploded since I last was learning. My choice back then was basically OpenGL vs DirectX. Now it's ??? vs ????????. I like learning from books so that is something I am considering. But, since I am totally new, I believe I will just start off with some really simple programs working from the Android developer's guide. I've already read parts of it, and compared with msdn, which I'm unfortunately accustomed to, it seems amazingly informative. We'll start with Hello World, and go from there to basic interactive UIs, and the most rudimentary of games. I'm starting this journal both to log my successes and/or failures, keep myself honest, and possibly get feedback from others here. PS. As I write this, we are awaiting QA confirmation for a patch code deployment of our current site software. Making games just seems so much more interesting than that...
  3. Just remember that anonymous classes tend to be harder to debug, especially if you use a lot of them. Getting an error message like "Error in {misc}" can be a lot more frustrating than "Error in Foo".
  4. Coffee?

I can't remember the last time where I didn't have any coffee in a day. If you try to force me to not have coffee, I'll probably force your head from your shoulders. I'm a caffeine addict and I'm cool with it. I started drinking coffee during college from the huge bucket percolators they had in the dorm cafeterias. Let me tell you it was some toxic shit, but so powerful. I really don't think they had ever emptied that thing out and cleaned it. They just poured more water and coffee in there. After that experience, I can drink any kind of coffee to get my fix, but really do prefer slightly more expensive and tastier kinds. I love dark roasts, and my economic brand of choice is Folger's dark roast or colombian. Can't stand Maxwell House anymore. My ex-roomate used to work at Starbucks and got a free pound of coffee every week. Man, that was spoiling right there.
  5. dungeons and dragons

Yeah, for making adventures you really need the DM guide. It's got things like treasure tables, encounter rules, and other tidbits that make the game what it is. Especially in the newer versions, it has some very good advice on how to be good at being DM.
  6. dungeons and dragons

Without the DM guide and a Monstrous Manual, it's gonna be really difficult to run a game. If you're just going to be a player, you have all you need to know (and the game is more fun quite frankly if you don't know everything the DM knows).
  7. Notes on The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

That would be an insult to Douglas Adams. You could order the book right now and have it shipped over night.

Quote:Original post by Agony Also look here: The Truth Behind the Men of Metal And there's a whole New York Times article on it here. It was just a big marketing thing. That's all. Damnit. Mecha-Robot is still awesome however, and I will pray to the Robot gods for his ascension.

Quote:Original post by mrhappy I find this to be somewhat more awesome. I was going to say something about how nothing could be cooler than the first link. I would have been completely wrong. Holy hell that's awesome. I want a robot :(
  10. Create a title for Fast and the Furious 3

The Daft and the Ludicrous A Little More Fast, But Alot More Furious Rocket-Powered Rice-Burners Driven By Terrible Actors 3

Carl Levin of Michigan, the top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, suggested that the proposal, reported in Sunday's Washington Post, was unconstitutional. ... Its nice to see republican senators that have the integrity to say the president is wrong. Dick Luger is the man. If he would have won support and the Republican nomination in 2000, we would be in much better shape than we are now. I and many other democrats would have taken him over Gore. But he was ground under by the Bush political-opponent grinding machine. Really sad.

Dude, if it actually works, this guy will be the new Greatest Guy Ever. It kinda looks like Optimus Prime too.
  13. 1) I'll add another vote for LOTR 2) World of Warcraft 3) If the third Xmen movie is coming out next summer, it gets my vote, otherwise I don't really have one.
