  1. missing first transmission

server writing: wrtClient[i].Write("[name {0}]", userName); wrtClient[i].Flush(); client reading: string temp = rdrClient[0].ReadLine(); I assume that RealLine waits for a terminating newline. Is the server really sending it?
  2. I love the new layout

Quote:Original post by Khawk Quote:Original post by doho I like the new menus except for that they are a bit slow. But I really don't like this white/gray theme. The old theme was much easier on my eyes. I don't see why no poll has been done before the change was commited. I've seen similar sites that also has changed their layout without doing a poll first, but I just can't figure out why it's being done this way. We did live 'polling' at the Austin Game Conference. One person over a course of 18 hours said they hated it. I guess it's more about which theme is the best and not about which is not being hated. I've made my point and I'll shut up now.

  4. Spare CPU Cycles?

Quote:Original post by jperalta Why not help the search for a cure for cancer or other diseases that aren't entirely preventable and can affect people whether they are stupid or not. Watch out for who you are calling stupid (no I don't have AIDS).
  5. I managed to do the exactly same thing with the CD for the same book!
  6. Formal definition of the integral?

I'm not a math expert but this is the way I look at it. The indefinite integral is the infinite sum: lim(dx->0) sum(f(x)*dx) = F(x). The definite integeral is F(b)-F(a) which also "happens" to represents the area under f(x) from x=a to x=b. I think it's important to not forget that the integral is an infinite sum. I've seen many students distribute roots inside the integral. If they would have known the definition they would have known that this is a no-no.
  7. Cross platform messagebox?

Just about any cross platform GUI library should allow you to do this. The question is if you want the hassle of using these libraries. You might need to link statically to ensure that all users can run your game without installing the GUI library you are using. However, this will likely explode the executable's size. I suggest that you just use the the console on unix systems a message box on Win32 systems.
  8. Do you use Skype?

Quote:Original post by ace_lovegrove Quote:Original post by Kazgoroth I use MSN, and hate the fact that I use it. Idiotic friends, forcing my choice of IM client to something so cluttered with crap "features"... I agree! There are other clients that support the MSN protocol. Miranda IM is my favourite one. I use Skype many times a week to talk to my mother.
  9. GUI Programming

I suggest QT from Trolltech, it rocks.
  10. programmable lego mindstorms

I used to play with BrickOS on my RCX and it's pretty cool. BrickOS seems to be a pretty much dead project these days though. If you want to learn about robotics/electronics I suggest you skip Mindstorms since it's expensive, and choose something that is cheaper and more flexible.
  11. Quote:Original post by ace_lovegrove So is it actually possible for me to run a client and a server on the same machine and have them talking to each other? ace Yea, imagine how hard it would be to develop networking applications otherwise.

  13. Electrical Engineering!!!

I chose the EE path because I knew I would continue to write software as a hobby and because I wanted to learn something completely new. Quote:Original post by PnP Bios math and science are the roadblock classes, if you can clear them, you shouldn't have much of a problem with the EE courses. I've had the opposite experience. For me, the math and science classes that are qutie similar through all the engineering degrees were generally easier than the pure EE classes. If you are looking for a new challange and are interested in how things really work you should definitely choose EE. I find it extremly satisfying to be able to understand how the technology that we use every day works on a lower level than software.

  15. That KKK guy that was convicted today

Quote:Original post by Raduprv Quote:Original post by doho And I wouldn't call killing three people for no reason fair. Did I say it's fair? Of course is not fair, but the justice, if it's to be done, should be done quickly, not in 41 years. Plus, you are not only punishing him for that, you are also punishing his wife. Imagine being alone in the world at the age of 80 or so, with your husband in jail. I see what you are saying, but I still thinks he deserves his punishment no matter what his age is. And I couldn't care less about his wife really. The guy should be happy that it took so long to find enough evidence to convict him.
