    file folders AH!!! help. me.

So I was fcking around with the icons for file folders today, and after I set them back to the normal file folder icon, whenever i open a folder, it opens up a new explorer search window, and doesn't open the damn folder. i can't figure out how to fix it. lmao edit - i've tried reseting the defaults on the advanced settings of the 'file folder' type and the 'folder' type in the windows file type options, but that did nothing.
  2. Wow. Deston. Thank you for the quick reply. You have no idea how much this helps me! That was the problem...for whatever reason, the normal Access violations and all them exeptions were set to "Continue" and not "break into debugger". Thanks a ton.
  3. I'm working on a project with a group of people, using a few 3rd party libs and such(tinyXML,OpenGL) and our own graphics, input, and gui libraries. This is Visual Studio 2003. When our game crashes, the IDE does not break into the code, for example, when trying to access code memory, or for any other reason. The game window just closes and the debugger stops in the IDE as if you had stopped it manually. Anyone have any ideas why this would be happening, as it can be quite madening trying to track down bugs under these conditions (IE no idea where the hell the program is crashing). No one else on the team can think of why this is happening (it happens to us all, but only with this project). Thanks for any help.

    Burning Out On New Job

My brother is 17 and works full time during the summer at an intership as a machinist (using a lathe and all that, I'm not much into that stuff) at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institue. He makes $12 an hour. He only works 40 hours a week and makes about $400 a week.

    $39.99 vs $40.00

I find it very annoying when I'm with someone and they see something for say...$3.99, and they say to me, "Look at this, only three dollars!". It seems to happen fairly often.

Can war on terror be won

I think many people here have very ignorant views of why the "terrorists" (I am sick of this term) are in their position and fighting the way they are. I wrote a long reply, but decided to cut short, and just post this link to an article I found. Suicide Terrorists. From the article summary: Quote: The bottom line, then, is that suicide terrorism is mainly a response to foreign occupation. Isolated incidents in other circumstances do occur. Religion plays a role. However, modern suicide terrorism is best understood as an extreme strategy for national liberation against democracies with troops that pose an imminent threat to control the territory the terrorists view as their homeland. Understanding the strategic, social and individual logics of suicide terrorism has important implications for America's war on terrorism. Our current policy debate is misguided. Neither offensive military force nor concessions alone are likely to work for long. The key problem we face is that our security depends on achieving not one goal, but two: We must defeat the current pool of terrorists seeking to launch spectacular attacks against the United States and our allies, while simultaneously undermining the conditions that will otherwise produce the next, potentially larger generation of terrorists. Accomplishing this overall purpose will require a new strategy for victory; that strategy must recognize that a trade-off exists between our two objectives, because the use of heavy offensive force to defeat today's terrorists is the most likely stimulus to the rise of more. (If you want to reply to the article's summary please read the entire thing first)

    I'm statistically significant.

Game looks awesome, and the site is very nice too. Check out my space action/adventure game Gnosticosm some time. It was done in two months, and the team split up (we graduated) after that and work stopped on it. I'll def. be keeping an eye on your project. Nice work :).
  10. I joined Sledge Hammer two months ago as the Lead Programmer, quite a task considering the size of this project. If you don't know anything about it, it is a 3D MMO, so that alone gives you a good idea of the work involved. Right now we have four programmers: Myself - Lead Programmer Anthony - Network/Server Programmer Robert - Graphics Programmer Chris - Graphics/Physics Programming They are all excellent at what they do. Chris is away, busy with some real life issues, and Rob is very busy with school at the moment, though he does find some time to work on the project. Rob is working on a scene exporter to get our level files from Max into Ogre3D. He has it functional in a basic form currently. Anthony is working on our Login Server, and I'm working with Anthony on the Server and other misc. tasks. Working with a distributed team is quite a challenge, I don't see these guys every day, sometimes I'll go a few days without seeing them. Things move much, much slower than I would like, but there isn't much I can do about that. I hope to update with more details on the project and our progress in future entries. Thanks for reading! Client Programmer We are looking for a client programmer to work with two programmers working on the server. We have one other graphics programmer who is working on a scene exporter for our level files, though he is very busy with school at the moment. Relevant Skills: C++ DirectX Knowldege of Ogre3D/CEGUI RakNet Serious only please. This is an independant game development group and it is not funded currently. We hope to gain a sponsor as soon as we have enough completed to give a proper demo. Some doesn't like what I said...

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm going to start updating this journal more often with updates on my current project, Existence.
  12. I just noticed my rating dropped about 70 points. I don't remember saying anything TOO harsh to anyone. Someone must be a little touchy :(. And all this time of being helpful where I can, my rating goes down the drain. Not like it matters that much, but it's still pretty shitty since I really do look at peoples ratings to judge them to a certain extent, and I imagine other people on here do as well.
