  2. Training oneself for the big guns of gaming...

One thing that has helped me along my journey is to peruse job listings right here at GDnet, Gamasutra, and especially the particular companies I want to work for, and see what actual requirements and skills they are looking for. If there's any *one* thing a company is looking for from a entry-leveler, it is likely a kickass portfolio of awesome game demos.
  3. Getting into Digital Music

To OP: If you like checking out underground indie music that nobody's heard of, you might try cdbaby.com. Edit: I can't speel. Or link on the first try. :(
  4. That is amazing. And scary. Yes. Amazingly scary. Quote:Original post by taby What bothers me is that I feel empathy for this creature. As horrid and noisy as it is, it's kind of cute. That's just it, man. That thing would totally Rochambeau you without the blink of a camera lens if it had the chance.
  5. Duke Nukem Forever Teaser Trailer

Quote:Original post by Spoonbender I would imagine they'd have been able to release a game in less than a decade, if they'd grown wiser. [grin] Ha! Touché. :)
  6. Duke Nukem Forever Teaser Trailer

Totally digging the trailer. I love 3DR & DN. I can see why people would be unimpressed with "just" a trailer; the old trailer was pretty sweet for its day and that was years ago. I would imagine that 3DR would have grown the wiser from that, as far as releasing trailers goes.

    My jolliness has been embiggened.
  9. I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.

And cheese. Do not underestimate the power of cheese.
  10. Criticism Wanted

It's been a while since I've looked into this kind of thing, but you might kick off your journey at the Wikipedia entry for Interactive Fiction Development Systems. There are a number of available IF engines. Like I say, it's been a while, but the current incarnation of the old Infocom Z-Code seems pretty cool. You can find a pdf game dev manual for it if you poke around a bit. My memory is hazy, but I seem to recall someone making a Z-Code environment that produced a standalone exe. But of course if the whole purpose of you making this game is to learn how to create an IF engine yourself, then my post is totally not useful. : Best of luck! Sounds like a cool game.
  11. UNDERBALL, one button game

The control has a great feel to it. Fun!
  12. The speaker in a 100 watt bass amp is going to have a very large and heavy magnet on the back of it. Bass amp cabinets aren't usually shielded at all. I wouldn't feel good about having my bass amp (or any kind of amp) sitting next to my comp and its hard drive 24 hours a day. That's just me. Never tried it, though. Be careful! :)

  15. Latest Model: An ogre.

Links: Looking good. I dig those hands! Seems like he could use a little something... A wristband or shoulder plate, perhaps...
