    Need C++ Exercises

    Sorry, login duffed up there! Link here: http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-C++-Game-Programming-Development/dp/1592002056
  2. Ah OK. Just wondered :] Thanks!
  3. Hey all :] I have been programming in OpenGL for a little while now but have been pondering a question for a while. I have often made object via the glVertex3f() but recently in one of my OpenGL books I saw this: glPushMatrix(); [use of glVertex3f() function] glPopMatrix(); I understand martrices and how they work, but do I really need to include the first and third line? I commented them out and it works fine. Any benefits of using glPushMartrix() and glPopMatrix()? Thanks all, John

    which two?

    I recommend getting C++ Game Programming written by Michael Dawson. I used this book and found it to be very good. Link on Amazon.com is below, take a look: http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-C++-Game-Programming-Development/dp/1592002056 PS Welcome to GameDev :]
  5. Hi guys :] Just wondered if there could be a change that there could be a check-box added in the area where you reply to/start new threads (under the three already there just above the Submit button) that could read "E-mail me regarding new replies to this topic", where the user would then be e-mailed for every reply on the topic if the check-box were checked. Can this be done? Thanks, John

    .bsp format (maps)

    Thanks, I'll take a look at those sites :D
  7. I'm stuck on two things... 1) How does the .bsp format work? 2) How can it be imported into OpenGL and used as a map? Anyone with any information on either of these points please help! Thanks :P John
  8. I had hoped that all it was was that the last number was not 30 at all, and that the post had reached its maximum width and gone onto the next line. But it hasn't. Oh well... :ƒ

    Warning: Porn found on your PC!

    Quote:Original post by tstrimp Quote:Original post by John_23 Quote:Original post by tstrimp Ver nice. You can just rename it though. Well this is the thing, a program has to be used to rename it because otherwise it cannot be done- Windows automaticly hides these extensions, even if the section is unchecked in folder options. Thats how it shows up in my explorer window. I can rename it just like any other folder. Hm. Bit confused about that one [smile] This happen to anyone else?
  10. Wow, stumbling across that NeHe site is one of the most useful things I ever found. So much useful stuff on there! Just found that polycount site that people have been talking about in the Visual Arts Forum. And it's editing it's site :( Just gonna wait a few days, then hopefully I can finally get going on this whole modelling front. Looking for a phone that I can program on. This doesn't mean with a compiler, all I want it to do is edit some sort of text message and then I can just paste the code across to the compiler by conecting it to the PC. Hope I find something. Dammit, have work to do. I'll have a look at the forums first [smile]
  11. Anyone know of a phone (preferably with QWERTY keyboard) that can edit some sort of text file that I can transfer to my computer later on and paste into my C++ compiler? Even a phone that allows me to edit text messages and view them on my PC would do, because then I could copy and paste the text. Would like a QWERTY though... Any ideas?
  12. I was pondering over it today and an answer hit me and I felt a bit stupid afterwards. Just position the text at 0 - ((length of string) / 2). That should do it I think :)

    Real Strategy Game!

    If the Ancient China part isn't too important I strongly reccommend looking at a game called Rome: Total War (the third game after Shogun: Total War). One of the best games I've ever played [smile]

    Actually, now you got me thinking, I have another solution. Did you know that if you take a folder and add an extension to it it becomes a shortcut to various things? Watch this [smile] Firstly, make sure you are viewing extensions for known file types (control panel -> folder options -> view -> uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types") Now create A NEW FOLDER!!! and add the extension: .{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} for a My Computer shortcut! The great thing is there is no way to take the extension off (as far as I'm aware) without doing it through a program in say VB 6, rename the file from there (or via DOS (shudder)). Anyone who wants to access your folder has to do it through the program and entering a password (through an Input Box) before the folder is renamed. If they try clicking on it anyway, it just puts you right back to "My Computer"! Try it- it really works [smile]
