Alternative to Blender

OK, so I got Blender a few days ago, and I''ve been playing with it - I''ve made something that''s vaguely recognisable, but there are two problems: 1) It can''t export to .X files. I found a script that was supposed to do this for me, but I couldn''t get it to work. 2) The model isn''t perfect. And that''s the main problem - without the manual, there''s no way I''ll be able to get my model looking how I want it to (and with NaN broke the manual is unavailable, and in any case expensive). So, I''ve been looking through the forums, trying to find other free 3D modelers - but the posts are old. Things like Strata3D are either not available or now pay-products. I tried out Milkshape - it''s ok - but registration requires a credit card, which is no good for me. So, which 3D modelers are free, still available/supported, and support .X files? Thanks in advance... Superpig - saving pigs from untimely fates - sleeps in a ham-mock at www.thebinaryrefinery.cjb.net

I swear by OpenFX. It is in my opinion the best free modeller out there. It doesn''t directly export to .X, but it does export .3DS and .DXF files.

I believe you should be able to easily find a .3DS -> .X export utility (I think it''s even in the DX SDK).

You can get it at www.openfx.org

Did you install Python 2.0 first?

It comes with Python 2.2. I could load the script, run it, and a .X file was created, but I couldn''t read the .X file.

Don''t worry now, I''ve got OpenFX and am happily exchanging my stuff via .DXF. Thank you borngamer.
