Walsh Zen of Direct3D Games Programming Question
I’ve just finished reading “The Zen of Direct3D Game Programming” by Peter Walsh and something has been annoying me through the later part of the book. When I try his 3D example programs they all run at precisely 9 or 10 fames per second and don’t vary from this. Even when I compile a release version and run that it still runs at either 9fps or 10fps. I’ve read a few times that Walsh’s code is in efficient but this is going a bit far
I’ve got an Athlon XP 2000 and GeForce 4 Ti4400, and the DirectX SDK examples all work fine; most at over 1000fps and many much higher.
I can’t work out what it could possibly be. I wouldn’t be that bothered but I was going to try and make a game and to save a bit of time was going to use some of his classes, but I wouldn’t want it to run at 10fps.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be or has anyone else experienced anything similar?
One other question while I’m here; is the ID3DXFont interface fast enough to use in games or is it better to use your own bitmap fonts?
Thanks for your help
