There''s many that I like, and probably a few that I don''t. But all in all, I really enjoy this style, as I am sure many of you would suspect. Anyway, that would be great if this thread could be a discussion and critique of everyone''s favorites. Try to stay true to the original theme and don''t bring highly different material into the thread. If you want to forge on to different matieral altogether, then please start another thread, and I as well as others would be happy to participate in that thread as well. So post links, and let your comments be heard.

Many what? What style? What the hell are you talking about?
You are not the one beautiful and unique snowflake who, unlike the rest of us, doesn't have to go through the tedious and difficult process of science in order to establish the truth. You're as foolable as anyone else. And since you have taken no precautions to avoid fooling yourself, the self-evident fact that countless millions of humans before you have also fooled themselves leads me to the parsimonious belief that you have too.--Daniel Rutter
Howard Terpning comes to mind. Thunder Speaks. Or Crossing the Ford. The second one has great light on the water.

Martin Grelle''s Monarchs of the North captivates me.

I''m looking for some with evening campfires, as the light in these are usually really nice to look at.

Ed Mell has a very distinctive style, but I think I''m more partial to traditional styles.

I''m not quite sure what we''re supposed to talk about here, so I''ll post an artist that has made some similar looking paintings to the ones you posted.

Jeffrey Jones has good looking stuff, and an interesting style. He does have some fantasy and sci-fi art work, though, and I''m not sure if you were wanting something else.

There is something missing from the pictures... especially the grass... I almost thought that the picture was real until I saw the grass(which is really horrible grass)... I''m not really interested in pictures of terrain--I''d rather experience it for myself.... That''s why rather have games concentrate on gameplay rather than graphics....
I am there to play the game... not stare at the snow being a percise depth, or a realistic weather system. Unless it is a part of the game(i.e Exploration) I don''t care...

Part of the beauty of paintings is the unique style each artist employs to recreate an image. Upon close inspection, a component of an image is nothing but some globs and strokes of paint, not even resembling a subcomponent of an image, and yet, taken as a whole, the image adds up to something.

I like Thunder and Dust. I can practically hear it. By contrast, this one is so silent.

Personally I like [italic]Silent Travelers[/italic] better, partly because I can feel more with it since, Ontario has the most freshwater lakes and rivers in the world. I''m not really impressed with Thunder and Dust...

Personally I don''t like the Thunder Speaks because the style of the grass isn''t consistant with the rest of the image...

Aside from the obvious subject matter, I like this one and this one because of the wide open space that they convey as well as the wonderful weather they depict. The essence of light, both in the sky and its illumination of the landscape to me is very powerful.

Yes... the landscape is better in those versions... but I''d probably have to see the art closer...
However, I''m still not a big fan of horses....

I wouldn't qualify the landscapes in the last two as better than Terpning's landscapes. I would qualify it as a different style. One style may be preferred over another by different people, but I would qualify all the artists as masters of the medium, each working within their own respective style.

As an example, look at Stephen Lyman's work, and yet I wouldn't qualify it as better.
