Have any of you ever played Jazz Jackrabbit 2? The music format was custom (.j2m) that only Jazz 2 could read. Does anyone know how to do this? I''d love to change MIDI''s and MP3''s into a custom format for my game so everyone can hear it... Street Gang soon... Gamma Hunter later... Well I think it was as in Unreal, they''re using common Module files, but converted into their own module type. It''s rather difficult to play this kind of files (you have to load samples, a pattern which tells you which sample to play in which frequency, and then you have to translate the samples to the requested frequencies and mix them altogether - I am still stuck with this part).
To compose these tunes is not easy too, but composing any other kind of music is neither.
On the other hand these files can be very small, and you can produce high quality music whithout needing to publish your game on cd. Unreal and Unreal Tournament used this kind of music.
If you don''t want to write your own reader/player for this, you should try MikMod or other libs. You can find more info on these in this forum.

hope this helps
