[java] Is the FAQ of use to anyone?

Here''s one of those random thoughts that occured to me.

We all know that one of the best things to have is source code so
I think it would be pretty cool if the faq could contain a repository of code snipets on how methods work, you know, what the help should have been with but isn''t (kinda like the VB help). Of course I''m not saying we go through all the methods one by one but if for instance, someone has a question on a method, they can refer to the repository and if it''s not there, post the question and someone posts the code snipet and it gets added to the list.

Just my 0.2 cents worth but it might help people.

PS. The link to "Gamelan''s Java Game Development Workbench" is dead or it''s changed

We have been posting code from the thread responses along with the answers to questions in the FAQ. There is not much in the way of code there yet, but that is mostly because there just haven’t been many posts on the board that include code. I plan on continuing this practice, but it will be limited to small code examples. I considered the possibility of maintaining larger code bases but after some thought it did not seem like a good idea.

* An FAQ type structure does not lend its self well to maintaining large quantities of code.

* There are several good sites for organizing public source code in existence. I am not going to be able to run that process any better than they are.

* Most non-trivial code requires ongoing development and modifications, and we don''t have an infrastructure where we can manage that kind of process.

So it seemed that the best options was to just link to sites containing source code. Many of those sites are listed on the ''General'' page under ‘resources’. It might be best to rename that heading to ‘examples and source code’.

from what ive seen it the faq is more of like a "why" type instead of a "how" faq

Well, ask some "how?"s and we will answer them and put them in there. And alpha blending questions don''t count.
OK, for what its worth the FAQ now has a search function = )
