Welcome to the Music and Sound forum on GD.net. Pull up a chair, listen to some tracks by your peers and discuss all things music and sound. We're happy to have you. Please check out the FAQ link for some basic (and mostly common sense) approaches used in this forum. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
I think I''ve asked this before, but to provide more speculation and further discussion, I''ll ask the same basic thing but in a different way...
I recently took a trip to COSI, and there was an exibit about the sea... all the way in the back was a huge statue of Posiedon(sp?), and every so often red lights shone on it, steam rose, and music began to play. It''s basically two chords backed with some drums. The thing is, it sounded mythical, threatening, and inspiring.
My question is, is there anywhere (on the web or elsewhere) that someone could learn how to make their music sound a certain way? Or is this something you just figure out after years of messing around with scales and chords? I''ve already found that exotic scales thing on this site and elsewhere... but that''s kinda limited. Is there a website or book that goes into this advanced topic?
Think of the kind of themed music beginners (as in people like me who don''t know much yet but are learning rapidly) could make for a game they are working on now... I just figured out a Middle Eastern/Desert sounding scale that someone could use for a game taking place in the same setting. If you want it, I can post it... but I am sure many other people out there know the same scale, or even a better one.
