Don't forget though there are ways of getting some tax breaks for example getting your employer to pay some of your money into a private pesion which is tax free and can be done before the tax man takes his chunk.
Also don't forget where your tax money goes, other countries may not pay as high income tax but they do have to pay for things like medical care or they may not have a state pension.
The UK doesn't have the highest rate of income tax though, Germany for example is much higher although their cost of living is cheaper.
