Just wondering if anyone has used opengl on laptops? im planing on buying a laptop in the next month or so. Im hoping ill be able to continue programming with opengl on it the same way i do on my desktop. Anyones help would be great! I dont wanna buy a new laptop and find out it sucks, and be out lots of $$ the most common card in laptops ive seen are ATI Mobility M1 8MB [compaq] Dedicated SGRAM 8MB [hp] ATI Rage Mobility 8MB [sony] S3 Savage Graphic Chip 8MB [sony] ive seen one with 16MB but the name wasnt familiar, i cant remember which one even. thanks for the help.

Most laptops or atleast the ones that I''ve seen in Best Buy, CompUSA, Circut City, etc. have little or no video card. I''ve been wanting to get one but the only one that I''ve found with the features I want cost an arm and two legs to get. MOst laptops don''t offer the same power as a Desktop but they get the job done though.

As many have found by build a custom computer or by buying an one of those super computers you run in to problems, but that can happen with any computer. It''s best to stay with the well known computer companies for example: Dell, Compaq, HP, etc. You can choose the lesser known ones because they may charge less but there Technical support or whatever may not be as good.

Word of advice make a Pros and Cons sheet or a Comparison Chart for the computers and video cards your looking for ,and then go from there.

With a little patience you''ll soon see those laptops pick up in speed the only prob. here is that he price will proboly rise too.

I am very fond of the Dell computers, infact I think the school systems in my state are. Most of the schools that I''ve visited have all or mostly Dell computers, but they''re all the optiplex crap, u know those refurbished computers some are fast others aren''t.

I wish they sould them in stores in my area I don''t like the idea of buying a computer over the internet...that''s one reason why I did not mention Dell in my above post.I know i should''ve been more objective but I wasn''t anyway those are some nice specs.

I really like the Sony VAIO specs though.
Docking bay, 20 gigs DVD and some have CD-RW and all the ports are on the bay, then it has special locking systems. They are pretty lite computers I must say but to bad I can''t say about the price they charge you for one.
