If you spend lots of time on the SDK it will come to you. I am only 15 and have figured out lots of D3DIM things. Still though the SDK does suck and if you do not know any C++ you are screwed. I learned from the C++ section and ignored the VB section. Also use the IMCanvas ActiveX control. It helps

You also might want to try the CDX wrapper''s ActiveX control. Otherwise, just use the DX7 VB type library, and try translating the C++ examples as best you can.
