Hi, i hope it's the right forum for it and someone could help.

While browsing through some job offers on different company websites I've seen a strange one for a graphic engine programmer.

I hope somebody could explain what they expect you to do there.

Basically it's this line what i'm wondering about:

[background=rgb(9, 27, 37)]A minimum of 3 years’ experience writing efficient core engine code (directly to hardware, or hardware APIs, not through 3rd party APIs)[/background]
The full job description is here: http://eu.blizzard.c...html?id=100009G

What i thought is, that you cannot access graphics hardware directly, only via an API like OpenGL or Direct3D, so could someone please explain what they intent to do?

Greetings

That is what they mean, using Direct3D. The 3rd party APIs are generally cross-platform libraries developed by studios, or engines such as Unity.
Also they are talking about professional experience. This means you have shipped 2-3 major game titles where you were directly implementing the graphics engine, not relying on an existing engine.
They're also probably referring to consoles where you might have higher level access to the hardware.
Thank you very much for the clarification, i think i was just confused by "directly to hardware", but your explanations make sense, cheers!
