I was wondering if any of you would know of examples of AI that change their (or separate) program code. And if so would you perhaps know if it has been incorporated in any games as of recent.

Thanks ahead.

Early attempts at AI put a lot of emphasis on this type of thing, and LISP was the language of choice for that reason. But in my opinion they were wrong. Machine learning these days is much more about tuning parameters.

Anyway, machine learning plays a very limited role in video games in either form.

AI Planners may fall into this category with their temportray plans that they build which have directives for what an object is to try to do (including delayed recursve hiearchical planning) with logic to decide when to abandon a plan and recaclulate for a changed/realized situation.
