Hi everyone,

I know there was just a topic on software etc. but I really needed anyones opinions on this software and if anyone has used it. It is Notion by Notion Music. Do you recommend it and if you have ever used it, is it worth getting?

I intend to use it for orchestral scoring but I want to use EWQL and VSL with it, I don't want professional sounding recordings just to use it to get a general idea because sadly general midi and my head don't seem to be able to accurately make what I see transfer to what I want to hear.

Here's the link http://www.notionmusic.com/products/notion4.html

Thanks for your input :)

No notation software can do what it is that you are expecting of it. Orchestral balance is almost always off, the only thing you can be sure of is making sure that the notes you are using are right. Even with proper sample libraries it takes a great deal of modwheel work/volume automation to inject expressiveness and also mixing to get the instruments in the right space. You shouldn't be relying on the sound output from your scoring program to tell you how your orchestration sounds.

Notion is a little less common than Finale and Sibelius, but it's just a notation software like the other two. I use Sibelius and you can load quite a few different libraries on it. You have to purchase or download free soundsets for them to work with Sibelius keyswitch/technique commands etc though.

I realise this but I just want to use the sustain patch EWQL sounds instead of general midi and I'm not really a fan of Sibelius (I have finale ;) ) and I can't seem to get finale to work with EWQL.

Okay thankyou for your help I guess I'll have to stick with finale and general midi and work on hearing things in my head not just the playback. I appreciate your input :)
