Fog around a point, not the camera...

I was just wondering if anyone here knows how to make fog stay visible around a point and not the camera. If you have played mechcommander 2 you should know what im talking about. Say the camera rotates/zooms around a point on a landscape. when you zoom out, the fog stays thin around the point, not the camera. Ive tried to explain it the best i can. Any help would be great. Thanks.
