Hi, I been checking how I can program audio on Windows and have come to the conclusion that I can probably use XAudio2 from the DirectX library for my purpose (libraries such as FMOD and BASS are out of the question, since the end project will be commericialized). For the deployment of XAudio2 to other computers, do I have to install the whole directX runtime or can I just deploy the .lib file and .dll for XAudio2?

I considered the waveouts, DirectSound and XACT too, but MS listed them as no longer supported.....

Yes, you would deploy XAudio 2 DLL only.

Windows 8 has XAudio 2.8 installed.

The .lib file is only important for linking against such library.

It must not be installed.
