Hey all! I'm trying my hand at Drum and Bass. For this piece in particular, I was trying my hand at combining vocal percussion/effects with other electronic/acoustic percussion of sorts.

I'm steadily working on it, but I'm not exactly satisfied with the openness of my mix as it is currently. Perhaps someone would be willing to take a listen and offer some feedback?

On anything, really.

I'd greatly appreciate it!

I don't know how helpful this is but the mix sounds fine in a regular Razer headset. Good and full atmosphere. The composition is also good although it really isn't a genre I usually listen to. Very creative with all the mouth-generated sounds.

Thanks Dragonion. I'm wondering if the timbres match up, and a part of me feels as though I can do a bit more filling out the beginning, and perhaps the break that arrives after the "Haha" vocal bit.

The balancing feels empty as well. The kick doesn't fill deep enough, and I want a punchy bass, and I'm not exactly sure that I am getting that.

I decided to give this track a rest for a few days and come back to it with a set of refreshed ears. I

As for the beginning I guess you could add a few discrete effects here and there although I personally think it sounds pretty good with a simple synth and a few echoing "blobs". As for the kick I guess it's a matter of either boosting the lower freqs a bit with some EQ, finding another sample/VST/RTAS, or perhaps adding an emphasizing bass drum wherever you need some additional punch. The "haha"-break sounds fine imo and I'm sure you can fix the supposed emptiness with some good mastering software like iZotope Ozone 5. That said, I think it's a good idea to let it rest for some days. I know from my own experience that working on the same track too many days in a row tends to kill the enthusiasm.

Hi! I have a strong opinion about the break after the "Haha"-vocal. Leave it, It fits perfectly! I really enjoyed your piece; it reminded me about Basement Jaxx, so you must be doing something right. I think the percussion is fantastic, though I think maybe some bass would do some good, it's very sharp now.
Other than that, thanks for reminding me about Basement Jaxx and keep up the good work!

Hey 10, thanks a lot for your feedback and positive comments! I'll listen back through to try and catch that spot in the percussion where it's really sharp and make sure I fix it up!

The drums have no power. This is pretty much game over for DnB.Grab some reference tracks and lowpass them, moving the filter up so you can get a feel for where the percussion is hitting and how hard.

Kk. I think that is what I was feeling as well. I could say the same for the bass. Thanks General!
