I was briefly reading about game templates. How do they differ from an Engine like unity?

In my opinion a game template is an example game project, eg a chess game template or a puzzle game template. It is more or less a finished game where you can modify the art, logic, coding etc. A game engine is a more general purpose plattform to write a wide range of games, thought some engines are per design more suiteable for certain game types. A game template on the other hand needs some engine to run with, thought this engine could be special game engine only written for this template.
